Last night Abby woke up at midnight SCREAMING. This wasn't a maybe-she''ll-fall-back-asleep cry. She didn't seem to be in pain, didn't have a fever, changed her diaper, etc. She did tug on her ear a bit so we may call the doctor for a wdyt. However, what concerns me is that she was adamant for food and milk. Normally we don't oblige and refuse milk after dinner time. But she clearly was wide awake, walked to the kitchen and almost threw herself on the floor for milk and food. This went of for two hours. TWO HOURS! I gave up after an hour, and Tim succumbed to the pressure to give her a granola bar and milk. She ended up in our bed watching Sox two in two and reading books. She finally fell asleep until 7ish. Holy Moses I have never seen her like this. She's generally a good sleeper and eater. She eats until she's all done. Do you think she was really that hungry? Is this the start of the phase that will-not-be-named? Am I screwed? :-) She may have a stronger personality that I thought......
edit: I should add she's been attempting to delay bed time in a rather manipulating, I mean interesting way....

We went through that, maybe once a week, right after Caroline turned 1. She just seemed famished so we gave her some milk. She did it maybe 4 times and that was it. Was very weird. Wasn't like she ate less during the day. Who knows! maybe a growth spurt, maybe the change in weather. I figured since DD is such a good eater and sleep I'd give in to her but if it became habit we'd have to stop real quick!
Luke has done that, we always give in and give him juice (aka water) and a snack. Usually he'll stay up for a bit and then right back to bed. She might have just needed a little comfort food. Maybe an upset tummy?!? I would say it would be fine as long as it doesn't become habit.
On the making bedtime later note, Luke has decided that naps and going to bed are the worst form of torture in the world. We have only been successful at naps in the car, so now he refuses the car when tired because he knows it'll end in a nap. But, can I say with gas at just under $4 a gallon, the nap in the car thing is ruining our piggy bank
NIghtmare, maybe? I can't imagine that being hungry would make her wake up screaming...maybe as Erin said, once she was up she needed some comfort food. I wouldn't worry about it becoming a habit just yet. I hope she takes a nice long nap for you today!
Oh, I love the stall tactics at bedtime...they crack me up. It's amazing all of the things Owen thinks of that he has to do "right now" when you tell him it's time to go upstairs.
Erin, I hear you on the snooze cruises. I know those would work for Ellie on days when she just can't settle herself, but I can't bring myself to do it -- the cost of gas is just too high!
