We are planning on going to the Bahamas for a week in August, and I need to figure out what to do w/ Diva & Wyatt. We are also going to Cocoa this month (18th-19th) and I need something to do with the dogs and I thought the wknd would be a good trial for someone to also keep them in August.
I know pretty much everyone is in Tampa, but any hernando/pasco ladies know of anyone that has a pet-sitting service.
They might chew everything in site, but they are pretty friendly. We've never had any agression problems with either one of them. I would want someone to come to our home.. possibly stay the night. ( I haven't talked to Chris about this idea yet, but I honestly can not imagine keeping them in a kennel). Diva barks at everything and I can only imagine that she would bark non-stop for an entire week if she were at the kennel.
They are crate trained, and do really well in their crates. They have pretty simple schedules, no medical problems.
I know there is a website that has pet sitters listed but I've googled and I can't find what i'm looking for.
In the past we've taken them to my MIL. That's not happening anymore.
Also, if you've had someone come into your home that you were not friends/family with. How did you introduce your pets to them? that sounds so silly, but Wyatt is really timid, and sometimes he is scared of strangers. He doesn't bark, or growl, but he will run & hide.
When we moved into our home, and my Dad stayed up stairs with us it took Wyatt about 2wks to come any where near him.
Thanks. Sorry that is so lengthy. I'm incredibly anxious about leaving our dogs for a week w/ someone we don't know..but i have no other option.
Re: Pet sitters? kinda long
We have a pet sitter come to our home when we are out of town. She comes 3x a day because H insist on keeping the walking routine we have in place when I am working from home which is walk in the morning, walk at lunch, and walk after work.
We had the pet sitter come over for a little "interview" if you will before we hired her on. I mean, we didn't have a Plan B, so good thing we got that good vibe from her. We didn't feel the need to check references, but that might be a good thing. This lady actually lives in our neighborhood and I passed her car one day. First I noticed tons of "Go Veg" stickers and was like, "sweet" another vegetarian, but then I noticed the dog sitter sticker on the side.
Since Diva and Wyatt chew everything, I would suggest keeping them in the crate during the day/night, but just having someone come over to let them out. Or putting them in a laundry room or some other contained area. If not, I'm pretty sure everything in your house might be destroyed when you get back.
Glad y'all are getting away on vacation! YAY!

Ha. After yesterday's chew-ganza they are banished back to their crates when we are not home, or downstairs, or in the shower. They are not allowed to be unsupervised anymore. They obviously can not handle it.

My neighbor pet sits. She may be interested in doing it for you. She took care of our 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 birds for the week we were in Vegas. PM me your info if you are interested, and I will ask her to contact you
ETA: She is a HUGE animal lover. We actually just sold our bird to her and we wouldn't have just trusted anyone to take him.
