Can I vent about how...

much I hate the state of CA and their slow ass procedures!!!

So after I took my NCLEX every piece of paper reads that it will take 3-4 weeks to get my results, but based on classmates getting their results it is taking almost 6 weeks to get results. ?Then supposedly another 3-4 to get your license.

Come on now, ?this is getting?ridiculous. I graduated from school in the end of june and it seems like I will not even be able to look for a job until the beginning of December.

I know I probably sound like a broken record, but I do want to help out with the expenses of our household and take some of the burden off my hubby. ?This is so not what I expected! ?Other states don't have separate licensing fees and paperwork, you send everything at the beginning and they do it electronically so you can see your license # online in about 2 weeks!

Stupid state procedures! ?Aren't we supposed to be technologically advanced??

Thanks for letting me vent!?

Re: Can I vent about how...

  • Sorry for your frustration with the state procedures.  Hang in there!!!
  • Bright side = at least you didn't take the CA Bar Exam, results take over 4 months to get!

Maybe it is taking longer because you scored so well :)

  • That's just ridiculous, especially since they're always talking about how we're experiencing a severe nursing shortage. You'd think that they'd want you to be able to find a nursing job quickly to relieve some of the burden. I hope that you get all of your paperwork and can begin working soon!
  • OMG Sara - so true!  When I took the CPA, they offered the exam only twice, every May & November.  Results took 90 days!  WTF!

Jenn - you're right on the nursing shortage.  It's too bad the process is so discouraging.

Michelle - I'm not familiary, but do you have to wait for your license (in-hand) before applying for work?  What a pain!

  • Sorry.  lots of hugs.

although, you might not want to vent on this board anymore... after all.. it is a public board.  someone from your board exam might be reading or know someone who is reading and delay your stuff even longer.  Wink

  • friend of a friend, who lives next door to the barber, who is a parent of someone who works there

    ai!

  • Marina, so true, My screen name is far from my legal name. ?I don't even go by my legal name and that is what I had to use for my paperwork. ?Looney mom gave me a horrible name that she doesn't even call me! In fact it is a boy's name and I get a hard time about it all the time. HAHA!

As for the license in hand issue, I can check the web site daily, but my friend's name didn't appear on the web site with a license # until right about the same time she got it in the mail!

    Stupid state sucks!!!?

As for the bar exam, man I would hate that wait, but if they tell you ahead of time and stick to the time frames that is OK. ?

My issue is that they give you time frames and they don't adhere to them.?

  • That is pretty ridiculous! I had my license within a week in Tennessee.

Can't you still look for a job? A lot of places (like UCLA where I work) will hire with an "interim permit" and you can orient and what not without actually having your license---and then you just jump into the job when you get it. But then if you don't, you aren't allowed to continue with the job.

  • Emily,

They only give an interim permit if you do not plan on taking the NCLEX for a while, because the interim permit takes almost as long to get as the license. ?I wish I could be doing something.

I asked DH if he wanted me to find something for the mean while, he said no don't worry about it. ?I would love to find something I could do 3 days per week that had decent pay.?
