ovo tests?

This is the 2nd month in a row that I've taken ovulation tests and there has never been a positive, is that unheard of? Should I call the doc? I was on the depo shot, but have been off for 18 months now, I would think things would be back on track by now. Anyone have experiences using them and are they 100%?

Thanks ladies, hope you had fun at your GTG!

Re: ovo tests?

  • When are you taking the test? They are most accurate if you use them first thing in the morning because that is when the LH is at its highest. If you continue to have problems maybe try using a basal body thermometer and chart your temperature as an alternative to the urine test.

I've read that it's better to take the ovulation predictor test in the late morning, as that's when the LH surge would be evident in your urine.  It's different from pregnancy tests, which are ok to do first thing in the morning.

Are you using the test with the smiley face or the ones where you have to tell if the line is darker?  I tried the dark line kind and they drove me nuts -- I was never sure it it was really darker or not.

After one month of using the regular ovulation predictors, I switched to using the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor.  A little expensive but super easy to use.

It's also possible that you're not ovulating, but I wouldn't panic yet.

  • With regular opk you want to use them mid day between 3-6pm. LH takes a while to build up. I really liked the new clear blue easy ovulation predictor kit. It's a digital that gives you a smiley face during your surge. It's like 20.00 and you get 30 strips. Are you charting?

I am a believer of charting and using the ovulation tests.  If you don't chart, I would suggest Fertility Friend.  Easy to use and they have courses to teach you how to chart.  I also tested a few times a day with the OPK's, (I used IC's), to see if the line would get darker.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for responses! So I'm doing them first thing in the morning bc that's what I thought I was supposed to do, but will switch to later in the day, i'm doing them every day bc I have a short cycle (like 25 days ish) but also spot from day like, 18 thru actually starting (hence the going for the depo shot! It was three years period free, it was amazing) So I'm not totally sure when my actually start date ever is. It makes it hard to predict ovulation, i certainly can't say "ok, day 14!" haha

Also, I'm using the one with the lines, i can see how it would be frustrating if the lines were close, but mine aren't, so I'm sure the test line is much darker

I've hear you can rent the predictor kits bc they are pricey, has anyone done this? Maybe I should give it a few more months, we've only been trying since March... Thanks again! I'm a panicky type of person, so good to hear I should take a breather Smile

  • I have been using OPKs for 9 months. You can buy the Wondflo OPK strips for like $10 for 50(on Amazon see link) that work just as good as more expensive ones. And you should actually test twice a day once in the more and once at night. Because the LH surge can only last for 12 hours and if you only test once a day you could miss the window! Hope that helps!!

  • I used the cheap wonfos for 10 months and used these for one month http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/tags-on-product/B002VLYAOI

and got my BFP.  Not saying that the new test was the reason we got pregnant but just something to think about.
