First of all, thanks so much for the t&p's after my first post. The news about my grandma has gotten increasingly better over the last couple of days. After the cardiologist was called and finally saw my grandma, he was like 'what is that yahoo of a neurologist talking about?!"
The neurologist basically said that she was in end stage organ failure and dying. The cardiologist said that her lungs are clear, her liver is working, and her kidneys are working the best they can with the build up of fluid. He believes that the right side of her heart has not been functioning efficiently enough with her pacemaker, causing the fluid buildup, including possibly the small seizures she has been having over the last couple of years. He immediately asked why she hadn't been seeing a cardiologist for all of her problems. Yesterday he adjusted her pacemaker to help with the functioning on the left side also, and is looking into possibly replacing her pacemaker down the road. He said that there have been a lot of advancements in pacemakers since her last one was put in (seems like forever ago, I but I have no real idea of when), and that there are ones that specifically target the right side of the heart (though I guess the left side of her heart isn't working at all without the pacemaker).
The cardiologist has said that he doesn't see any reason, thus far, why she can't be released tomorrow, and go to my cousin's graduation next week!! He is even saying that he thinks she may be ok to fly to Michigan for the summer, but just to have all of her information with her, and to make sure she goes to Grand Rapids hospitals if she has any issues (last year she was stupidly taken to a small rural hospital when she was in West Michigan).
So, so far so good. It is a huge relief! She obviously isn't 100% and 20 years old again, but anything is better than end stage organ failure. Ugh. I'm so glad that it sounds like she is finally getting the help she needs.
Re: Grandma update
That's great! You must be so relieved!
That's great news!! I'll continue to keep her in my T&Ps
