What a crazy day so far!
- My dad joined Facebook. That's blowing my mind because he's totally technology adverse. He doesn't even own a cell phone. But now he's on FB? Weird!
- My SIL sent me a text and said that her and her new boyfriend (of two months) are talking about getting engaged. Yeah, this is the same person who left her husband a year ago after six months of marriage. But now she's found Mr. Right and after two months wants to get married again. Anyone want to bet on how long that marriage will last?
- The good news (and an AW) -- B and I just booked a trip to Hawaii!! Airfare dropped to crazy-low prices (for HI) and we felt like we couldn't pass it up. We're going to the Big Island and Maui. Yay!
I'm having a hard time concentrating on work today.
Re: My brain is going to explode.
Congrats on Dad being on FB, I think.
So happy SIL found Mr. Right...Now....Again. I bid 7months for the marriage.
Hawaii!!!! So jealous. Awesome on the air fare deal!
-I would probably pass out if my dad joined Facebook. WEIRD would be my thought too. But, at the same time, GO DAD!
-Wow...good luck with that one.
-YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! How exciting to go to Hawaii! I am super jealous! ENJOY!!!
Yeeps, hopefully your SIL is just excited, and they aren't really going to jump into marriage. You know how some people say stuff, make big plans, but there is no follow through? Let's hope. . .
Yay on Hawaii!!!! Was there a sale? Ever since you and Chymes found that airfare deal, my whole family has wanted to go. How FUN!
- Parents + Technology almost always = funny to me.
- Reading that made me want to hit my head on my desk.
- I wish I knew how to say Yay or Congrats in Hawaiian, but I don't, so Yay and Congrats!
Is your SIL generally an attention seeker? Or is she more impulsive/romantic? Seems kind of funny to send a text about that.
Woo hoo for Hawaii! I've never been and want to go so bad!! When is the big trip?
I am wowed by the fact that you guys booked the trip. YAY! I know that sometimes making that decision is a long process for you two, that must have been some deal.
If my dad were on FB... huh. I guess I can't imagine a world where my dad is on FB. That would be weird.
Oh... the SIL.... oh boy... um... Hawaii!!!!
Thanks, everyone!
Deeder, I think I'm going to start referring to the boyfriend as "Mr. Right... Now... Again." I like it!
KerCo, I'm also hoping that SIL is just overly excited. And hoping that Mr. Right...Now...Again is more sensible. And, yes, there's a great sale on airfare right now! Check prices on United and Continental for flights out of both GRR and DTW. I know the prices are good for September and October, but I think they go on later into the fall as well. You might have to play around with dates quite a bit though in order to find good rates. Our rates from GRR to Hilo, and Maui to GRR are $535/person (taxes included) which is really good.
Hoektastic, yes, my SIL is a major attention-seeker. She's also relatively impulsive. Not a good combo in this instance. And our Hawaii trip is in October.
GRSP, I know, can you believe we booked it! We weren't that impulsive, it took a week of discussions/research/anxiety. But we finally pulled the trigger. And B was actually the one who initiated this discussion. He had set up an airfare alert for cheap Hawaii airfare, so he caught the sale as soon as it started. Shocking, eh?
I don't know this guy, but I was searching google images quickly for "yay" and he popped up. And I giggled. I'm really glad your travel buddy stepped up!
I am so proud of you guys it makes me teary. If you need any Big Island tips/suggestions, hit me up.
My co-worker just asked me what I was laughing about.
Haha! Love the picture!
Chymes, I will definitely be hitting you up for Big Island advice in the coming months. I'm super excited for the Big Island. That island was my pick. B picked Maui. That is so reflective of our vacation styles. But you and XN really liked the Big Island, yes?
Funny, I figured that was how you decided on the islands. We did indeed really enjoy the BI. Of course, we were staying with our friends, so there's always something to be said for having a personal tour guide and getting the inside scoop. But there was a ton to do and see (much more than we had time for!). Of course, I loved Maui when my family went there in 2006, too, so I don't think you're going to go wrong.
I just realized I used the phrase "of course" to start a sentence twice in one paragraph and now I hate myself. Dumb stream-of-consciousness typing.
Parents on facebook is just weird to me lol. My MIL is on there and it makes it awkward for me.
Yikes to the SIL thing.
And SO jealous of Hawaii, have an awesome time!!!
Update on my technology illiterate dad on FB:
I posted a "Welcome to Facebook" comment on his wall. His comment response included "I think I got on here by mistake, but I'll go for the ride."
HA! He accidentally created a FB page?
And then he thanked me for being his friend.
This is very funny to me.
My friend's dad was trying to create a FB page for his landscaping business...but somehow ended up creating a second personal account for himself instead...and THEN somehow managed to send friend requests to everyone who was already his friend on his first personal profile.
I was similarly amused.
I love dads on FB. Ha.
For my Dad's business, he has my 14 year old cousin managing the FB page. He is actually doing a good job.
Your "dad on FB" story is making me giggle. I am having flashbacks to when my dad was talking about Twitter, and called it "twittering" instead of tweeting. Love it.
Big, big side eye to your SIL. She sounds a bit impulsive. Maybe she should take some time to focus on herself and figure out what she wants/needs before jumping into new relationships...hang in there. Other than roll your eyes, I don't know what you could do to nip that one in the bud.
And, lastly, AWESOME on Hawaii!! I'm so happy you were able to book a trip relatively stresslessly! (gotta love made up words, eh?) One day when we finally make it there, I'm going to have to hit all of you travelers up for all the good tips.
