knock out roses

Is it possible to prune knock out roses regularly so they stay around 2 1/2 - 3 feet tall and don't get too large? I bought some and want to make sure I plant them in the right spot.

Re: knock out roses

  • I have double knock outs in my garden. You're supposed to prune them back in early spring, I believe. I prune them back significantly then (before they start blooming) and then just prune as needed if they start getting out of control. Depending on where you live, they are pretty tough to kill.
  • I prune them year round.

Last December I cut them flat to the ground and they are gorgeous this year.

This. The damned things are bulletproof. I take mine to the ground every other year and thin/trim as needed through the season.
