Moving to Milwaukee area ... need apartment recs
My fiance (we're getting married June 18) just got a new job in Milwaukee and we will be moving there sometime in July, and I'm looking for recommendations for apartments. Ideally, we are looking to spend under $1,400 a month (with the hopes that some of utilities included). Also, something that allows small dogs would be great (we don't have one right now, but we may get one in the future).
Anything would be of a great help, neither of us are from that area (although I am originally from the Chicago suburbs, I'm not too familiar with Milwaukee) so we'd like to make sure we get into a decent place.
Thanks so much!
Re: Moving to Milwaukee area ... need apartment recs
My husband and I live in The Landing Condominiums. They rent out some of the units because of the economy. We LOVE it! We pay $1015/month for a one bedroom. That includes heat and an underground parking space. Ammenities include a gym, theatre room, billiards room and outdoor pool. It is located on Lake Michigan in St. Francis, about 10 minutes south of downtown. From our dining room we have a view of downtown and the lake.
Also, pets are allowed but they charge a monthly pet fee. I'm not sure how much the fee is though.
Say what now? 20 minutes with the construction? I find that very hard to believe.
I monitored postings on Craigslist really closely, and we snagged a downtown 2-bedroom/2 bathroom condo with 2 parking spaces that allows pets for $1450. Ours was a pretty rare unit. OP, if you only want a 1-bedroom, you can find something just about anywhere. For a 2-bedroom, rents go down as you get away from downtown. Bayview (neighborhood south of downtown, between the river and the lake) has a fair amount of reasonably priced duplexes.
There are plenty of buildings on the East Side, near UWM, and in Shorewood (first ring north suburb) that will meet your needs. If you look around on Craigslist, you'll start to get familiar with some of the major rental companies.
Personally, I can't imagine living all the way out in Waukesha or Ozaukee counties as a young, childless person. Yaaaawn.
