POLL: City, 'Burbs or Country
DH is trying to convince me that we need to move to the country. I'm starting to buy into his plan a little. So I just thought I'd ask here ....
1. Do you consider your home to be City (metro), 'Burbs, Small/Rural Town (non-metro) or Country?
2. Do you like your location sitaution. Feel free to explain.
3. Do kids (or future kids) make you think differently about living in a certain location?
4. How far is your work commute?
5. If you were to move what do you think your max (one way) commute time limit would be?
6. Do you want to move? Where to and why?
Re: POLL: City, 'Burbs or Country
1. Do you consider your home to be City (metro), 'Burbs, Small/Rural Town (non-metro) or Country?
small/rural town (not too out in the country)
2. Do you like your location situation. Feel free to explain.
Love it. We lived in a city atmosphere before and we like it so much better now. Sometime I do miss the convenience of the city, but we're still real close to grocery stores and about 20 minutes from shopping/malls. I also like that our house isn't practically on top of our neighbors, and I feel that in general people are just more friendly. People are always waving in our neighborhood, and everyone watches out for everyone else.
3. Do kids (or future kids) make you think differently about living in a certain location?
Yes
4. How far is your work commute?
13 miles or about 25-35 minutes, and I work in the city.
5. If you were to move what do you think your max (one way) commute time limit would be?
one way - 45 minutes max (however, I really would not want to go over 30)
6. Do you want to move? Where to and why?
Nope, DH and I staying put until we absolutely have to move.
1. Do you consider your home to be City (metro), 'Burbs, Small/Rural Town (non-metro) or Country? 'Burbs right now
2. Do you like your location sitaution. Feel free to explain. I like it just fine right now, but I would want to move before kids are school age (better school district) and out of Mecklenburg Co.
3. Do kids (or future kids) make you think differently about living in a certain location? A little. DH and I both grew up in small/rural communities. I'd like to find a small town that's still an easy commute to a city. That way we have best of both worlds.
4. How far is your work commute? currently about 30-40 minutes.
5. If you were to move what do you think your max (one way) commute time limit would be? 45 minutes max. the less the better.
6. Do you want to move? Where to and why? i want DH to be happy. and i want to move one day, but i don't NEED to right now. i always want to live in a larger metro area that has lots of things to do. looking for a little of both. DH wants a least 5 acres he says.
1. Do you consider your home to be City (metro), 'Burbs, Small/Rural Town (non-metro) or Country? Right now we're in a smallish town & before that we were in a smaller one.
2. Do you like your location sitaution. Feel free to explain. Yes. We are definitely small town people.
3. Do kids (or future kids) make you think differently about living in a certain location? In the future, when we have kids, we'll consider what school district we are in and try to make a decision on location based on that. But we won't move to a city, we'll try to stay in as rural an area as possible.
4. How far is your work commute? DH drives 20-30 minutes one way. We know people that drive a lot further though to work at the same place.
5. If you were to move what do you think your max (one way) commute time limit would be? That's sort of up in the air. If commuting to one place daily neither of us would want to drive more than an hour a day, but DH's job in the future could require a lot of travel, so it might not matter so much where we live.
6. Do you want to move? Where to and why? Yes, we want to move back to NC because we hate CO, but that move is a bit bigger than you're asking about. Once we're back in NC we plan to settle back into WNC, but we do want to be in a bit bigger town than we were before.
1. Do you consider your home to be City (metro), 'Burbs, Small/Rural Town (non-metro) or Country? In theory I would consider it City, but it is a much smaller city than previous cities I have lived in.
2. Do you like your location sitaution. Feel free to explain. Overall I am pretty happy with it. I wish we could have affording something we liked within walking distance to shops/restaurants, but that just was not happening right now.
3. Do kids (or future kids) make you think differently about living in a certain location? Baby is not here yet, but I think we will be pretty happy with kids in our current location.
4. How far is your work commute?about 20 minutes
5. If you were to move what do you think your max (one way) commute time limit would be? I would not want to commute more than 30 minutes and really that is too much. When I lived in the DC area my commute was 45 min-2 hours one way depending on the day/traffic and I hated it.
6. Do you want to move? Where to and why? In theory I would not mind moving within walking distance of restaurants/shops. Overall though, I have no desire to move, however that could be because we are still unpacking/settling from moving in here. In the future I would probably consider city or small town options. I do not really have any desire to live in the country.
1. Country
2. It blows.
3. Yes...I want to get them the heck outta here!
4. 20 minutes from home to work, but since I do daycare dropoff my total commute is 45 minutes
5. 30 minutes
6. Yes.....our house is for sale right now and once it sells we're moving back to Chapel Hill.
1. in 13 days it will be city, currently 'burbs.
2. 'burbs-meh, it's ok. i hate that it takes us 30 min to get uptown. we are definitely looking forward to living in the city limits.
3. we had already picked out a neighborhood we wanted because it was family friendly, had lots of families of different ages, and is in a good school district. it influenced our decision.
4. it will be 30 min.
5. 30 min. since i work at 7am.
6. n/a, we're moving because we hated our neighborhood. we're out now!
1. Do you consider your home to be City (metro), 'Burbs, Small/Rural Town (non-metro) or Country? Country
2. Do you like your location sitaution. Feel free to explain. I love my current location, it's very quiet, you can see the stars at night and everyone waves at each other as they pass by.
3. Do kids (or future kids) make you think differently about living in a certain location? future kids, yes. BUT, we wouldn't be moving out of the country atmosphere, just closer to the in-laws an live on the family farm so we have some help.
4. How far is your work commute? Mine is an hour, but that's only because when we bought the house DH and I were working in completely opposite directions (both an hour commute), when we do move to the farm my commute will be about a half hour.
5. If you were to move what do you think your max (one way) commute time limit would be? I wouldn't commute any farther than I am now. Ouch.
6. Do you want to move? Where to and why? I don't want to move now, but once we have some kids I think that will change.
1. Do you consider your home to be City (metro), 'Burbs, Small/Rural Town (non-metro) or Country? Country, even though it is a really small town.
2. Do you like your location sitaution. Feel free to explain. I like being where it is quiet. I am not a city person.
3. Do kids (or future kids) make you think differently about living in a certain location? I wanted to live in the country before I had kids, and want to even more so now. It is nice to let them go outside and play and I do not have to worry so much nor check on them every 2 minutes to be sure they are safe.
4. How far is your work commute? 30 minutes, give or take
5. If you were to move what do you think your max (one way) commute time limit would be? 1 hour is my limit.
6. Do you want to move? Where to and why? Yes, most definitely.
Back to WA state, where I grew up and where my family is. I moved here to be with DH, now I am ready to be back where my roots are.
