Re: Ask a Nestie anything!
We used part of our tax return on a precor for the house. That helps with the motivation. I just found out too that to increase our chances for kids I need to drop some weight so that helps too.
Any Nestie: What is your favorite part of living in Texas?
Amanda, honestly sometimes I don't but most of the time I really do enjoy working out and the feeling I get from it. Physically it makes me stronger, look better and usually have more energy, emotionally it keeps me in a better mood and is something else to mark as a daily accomplishment. The key for me is if I am bored then try something else. I follow a lot of healthy living blogs so I get tons of ideas for strength workouts. When I lose my motivation and start to fall off track I just remind myself of the reasons I like it and can usually get back in the routine pretty quick.
It's great that you post this. I think my time management skills are terrible right now.
I work about 8-5, but my commute is about 45 minutes to an hour each way (and sometimes much, much longer), which I find really draining. I go straight home, wait for DH, then we go grab something for dinner (we don't cook) and watch some TV before going to bed around 10 pm. I really want to start working out and keeping my house cleaner, but I'm always so tired.
At my previous job, I lived about 10 minutes away from work. I left work everyday at 4, was in the gym by 4:30, and done with my workout before 5:30. Also, my "gym" was my apartment gym, so that meant I was also home before 5:30. I'm afraid I'll never get back to working out, since here everything is 15-30 minutes apart!
I also suck at time management... I make lists of things to do in the evenings, and then park it on the couch while I'm home, so I don't end up working out (I have a workout room with an elliptical and a wii fit - never use em) or cleaning, or cooking...
Which also leads me into my lack of motivation for working out. About the only motivation I have is that I have started tracking calories, and I only get so many a day to keep losing weight. So, if I want something for dinner but can't "afford" it, then I'll do a bit of a workout to earn enough calories to eat what I want. But only if it's only a little bit, hahah.... I am terribly out of shape.
My question, if anyone decides to continue this thread tomorrow, is: How many of you log on in the evenings, but don't post because you don't think anyone else is on & wanting to post?
--How do you guys manage your time during the week?--
Every day depends for me. Right now I'm working 40+ hours per week and am taking BioChem in summer school Mon/Wed afternoons in Denton. I live and work in Dallas, so the commute there really stinks. During the normal school year I take between 12-16 hours of dietetics courses, work 30 hours per week, and do volunteer work at the hospital. It's been really difficult for me to manage and that makes me feel like a slacker.
I have friends who are older than me with kids who work double nursing shifts and go to school and have unlimited energy. Me? Not so much. I have had zero energy to workout or do anything additional beyond work, school, and studying. I'm definitely right there with the rest of you who are constantly tired. I have hypothyroidism, and that certainly doesn't help. I'd love to have half the energy my friends do!
<-- This girl right here!
Me too. It's why I've mostly stuck to TK -- there's a little traffic at night and on weekends there (not much though). That's when I'm online.
I usually log on once or twice to check and see if anything is going on and would likely post a little if there was activity.
I log on sometimes and would post if there was more activity.

RE: Time Management
My days are very full it seems. I get up about 6:30 and out the door by 7. Get to work about 7:30 and work till 4:30. If we have SD I go pick her up, go home and cook dinner. Then it's homework and housework. Bath time by 7:30, story time by 8 and lights out for her by 8:30. Then we get to sit down or do whatever house project we are working on. If it's during the school year for me I start my homework about 8:30 and work on it until 9:30-10 and then shower and get ready for bed. I feel like we go-go-go all the time. I am ready for the summer when there is no homework for me or SD.
EDIT: TN is messing up and keeps posting in the middle of me typing and I can't delete

Stebbe & Bobbileigh - thanks for the motivation information! BL, everything you said makes complete sense to me. I really should consider starting up. I did some minor excerise before the wedding, but it completely stopped when we said "I do". LOL
~Favorite thing about Texas - There are so many wonderful things about this state that I love. I love the fact that you can drive 4-5 hours in so many different directions and still be in TX. And everywhere you go, it's different... Hill country, the coast, mountains, desert and so on!
~ I log on at night, but hardly ever post. I probably would if other's posted more.
I find it hard to stay motivated to work out at times. Unfortunately, what really motivates me is seeing results and sometimes that takes time. But I love the way I feel when I have been working out.

Hmm... I'm thinking we need an evening post sometimes, for the later crowd
Gotta get to work... you ladies have a wonderful Friday!!!
Results definitely motivate me. Also, the ability to eat whatever I want and not gain weight... unfortunately, I don't necessarily lose it either. Ha.
No, really. I'm very competitive with myself. Each time I try to challenge myself to work harder/stronger/faster than before. It is a great feeling of accomplishment.
I started at 27--close to your age. My motivation was and continues to be the older women in my life that look fantastic in their 50's. I want to be that person. Plus I reallly like to eat and working out is the only way I can eat what I want. And even though I complain about always wanting to lose weight, I will always admit that it's more about being healthy than skinny.

I think you are definitely on your way to being that lady because you look great. This is also true for me but a little opposite, I worry that if I cant find the motivation and make the habit to be healthy now then how will I ever do it as I get older. I want to create the right life style now so that as I get older I am already in shape.
Exactly. I look at the older women in my life who wish they were fit--who, like me, could usually maintain their weight easily but then as they got older, got out of shape quickly. At 42, it is just starting to become more difficult for me now and I am thankful I already have a good plan in place.
Oh and thanks for the compliment!

RE Time Management:
I work 8:30-5:00, Mon.-Fri. with about a 45 minute commute both ways. I get home and don't really ever want to do anything but watch tv. I will either eat cereal or get fast food on my way home. Tuesday nights I usually get together with my friends and their husbands for "friend dinner." Since DH lives in ND most of the time I try to stay busy with friends and family. On the weekends I go to my little brother's baseball games or whatever sport he is playing at that time. I need to get on the working out band-wagon though for sure!
RE living in TX:
I love Texas. DH tried to talk me into moving to ND and I know I wouldn't last up there. It is just way too cold! I love the heat in Texas and I am absolutely miserable when I am cold.
Sarah...I can't believe that's not your real hair color! I love your hair!
Amanda, I'm right there with ya. I find it hard sometimes to find the motivation. But a lot like what Stephie said, I feel if I don't do it now, I won't do it as I get older. My metabolism is good now because I'm only 26, but as I age that's not always going to be the case and I will need to rely more heavily on working out to maintain my weight. Also I hope if I'm healthy and workout before we have babies, I can continue to work out during pregnancy and lose the weight faster afterwards. Hopefully. Maybe wishful thinking.
Also I just feel healthier I'm general.
I'm doing b-pics on the 18th, so you would think that would be motivation, right? haha. I finally picked my lazy butt up off the couch and worked out last night to my toning DVD. My legs hate me today. My metabolism has already started slowing down.
It happened just all of a sudden. Blech.
Sometimes I log in at night, but I mostly don't because I know no one else will be on.
I work M-F, 8-5. I also go to school FT (online and on-campus testing)... and I have a 4 year old.
Time management doesn't even exist for me!

How long do you and DH plan to live apart like you are doing now?
Aww thanks! I usually just tell people it's my real hair color :-p
What does your DH do again?
