Name on Your Diploma...

So I am finishing my Masters in May. My undergrad degree obviously has my maiden name, I am kinda of torn if I should do maiden name married name or just married name on my masters degree... am I just being nutty? I want things to match.. yes, I'm that neurotic... thoughts?

Re: Name on Your Diploma...

  • If you changed your last name, I would have it say your married name.  That's who you are now and that's who you will be in your professional career.  Besides that, unless you have both degrees framed and hang them up, it really won't make any difference at all.  Even if you do have them framed and hung, no one will really care when they see them and will totally understand that obviously you got married in between degrees.

  • I'm in the exact same situation (also finishing a master's degree in May).  I plan on having my name as:  first maiden married on my master's diploma.  That way, if it's hanging next to my undergrad diploma with first maiden on it, it won't look too strange.

Is it weird that I've already figured this out?  I guess that makes me neurotic too!  Big Smile

  • Im also finishing my Masters degree this summer and I am going First Name, Maiden Name and Married name, just so it doesnt look wierd next to my undegrad diploma
  • I'm also doing my masters and will do the First Maiden Married.
  • when i got married i changed my middle name to my maiden name, so my doctorate has first-maiden-married, which is now my legal name anyway

it was important to me because i use my maiden name professionally and wanted that on the diploma too
