abby update

Sooooo, we had her 18 month appt today. Poor thing has a double ear infection. I feel like such a bad momma. All her signs really pushed towards teeth. We need to go back in two weeks to check her ears and two months for a weight check. Her busy body self isn't gaining as much weight as we'd like. 18 pounds 14 oz...she's falling farther away from the chart. Lots of peanut butter, avocado and hummus coming her way! Stupid ears....

Re: abby update

  • My sister did this with Cate. She thought it was just a runny nose and it was a sinus infection and bronchitis. I think all mommies do things like that.

I can't believe how little she is! Abe weighs more thans he does! Abby...have a cupcake!

  • Poor thing! I'm in doubt right now with Caroline's ears vs. teeth. Caroline has surpassed Abby now in weight! Did Abby lose? I thought she had hit 19lbs. Such an active little girl and with this weather and new found freedom doubt she'll slow down any either :)
  • Helen had an ear infection at her one year checkup. I had no idea.

We had Helen's 3 year checkup today and she's actually moving up the growth chart! She's up to 30 lbs. and 36.5 inches.

  • That happened to us too! Eli had a cold and a few other symptoms, but we didn't think of ear infection. Took him (a week later!) and it was a double ear infection. Now I am super paranoid about it. Hopefully she'll feel better soon and start packing on the pounds!

  • Poor Abby!!! You would have never known the other afternoon.

On the weight.... oops, as her giant boyfriend ate all her snack ;)

  • Poor little ears!  How is a mama supposed to know these things?  I guess this is why there are "well baby" check ups. Is ice cream on the list of things to eat, because peanut butter ice cream sounds pretty good right now.

  • When Ben was 1 he was slipping in the growth charts and his NP told me to start adding a little carnation instant breakfast to his milk for extra calories.  Three months later he went from 5% back to 25% which was incredible since he was moving so much more.  I got the packets of CIB vanilla (cheap at bjs) and would mix in 1/2 a packet over the course of the day making sure it was not to the point of cutting his appetite down.  It's similar to doing pediasure but much more cost effective :)  As a finicky toddler who hardly eats, he's actually the highest he's ever been on the growth chart (more around 40-50%) and he's solid which makes no sense to be because he burns more than he eats.  It's stressful when they are tiny though!

I say, enjoy it while you can, Abby!  I wish someone would tell me to eat more avocados and peanut butter ;)

  • Aw man, try not to be too hard on yourself, it's so hard to know what's going on when they can't communicate well!

I'm right there with you on the weight concerns - Lily went from 50th percentile at 6 months to 7th percentile at her one year. We are hoping it's just because her dad is small (his weight was similar), so her pedi isn't suggesting we do anything at this point except "watch it." But, as I've mentioned on here before, she is not a good eater!

  • Thanks gals - here were her specific stats:

     18 months vs 15 months.

    Weight: 18.14 vs 18.4 pound
    Length: 30 1/2" vs 30 1/4"
Head circumference: 46cm vs 45 cm

And, Megan, I like your train of thought!  I'm trying to cut out calories now!!!  Too bad I couldn't suck out my left and right buttock to give it to her :-)   I'll have to try the CIB.  Someone else also suggested adding protein powder.  We're going to try it all!
