GENDERLESS CHILD?

Have any of you heard of this?

http://reluctantmom.wordpress.com/2011/05/30/rainsing-a-genderless-child-and-other-interesting-canadian-past-times/

While I get what the parents are TRYING to do, I don't think they're going about it in the right way. And to let the 'world' in on it. That's just a ploy to get attention for their experement. I'm slightly bothered by this.

Re: GENDERLESS CHILD?

  • Poor kids. I think anytime you try to hide any natural part of who your child is you teach them that the hidden part is wrong. If you want to avoid gender stereotypes this isn't the way to do it. It's like saying you are going to lose weight by banning spoons. The spoon doesn't make you fat, your actions do.

  • Hmm  This is my response to the parent.  What the heck.  It's hard enough being a kid, even harder when you have no idea what you are.  Strange.

  • we discussed this at work the other day. Even if it is somewhat successful in early years I don't think it will last very long. Once they are in school kids get segregated in a sense anyway (which bathroom you use, etc.).

  • My first reaction when I heard about this is that maybe their child was born transgender - meaning with both male and female parts and sometimes they have to take medication for one hormone to trump the other ( I know someone like this). In this case, maybe they don't want to choose for their child...who knows. just a thought.
