Let's talk cars......

I lease a Toyota Camry. It's up in April, so DH and I have been looking for a new car.  We will not lease again, we will buy. I really would like something with a payment under $200. But I need something that my DH can feel comfortable driving, he's 6ft tall!

So what kind of car does your DH drive, if at all.......TIA

My DH drives a Subaru Legacy.  He used to drive an Accord...but he is also not 6 ft :)

I am tall and i loved both cars

  • We have a Honda Accord and a Dodge Ram 1500 truck.  Hubby drove the Accord all the time before we go the truck.  He was comfortable and he's 6'3" and approx.  250 lbs.  Even James (my son) feels comfy and he's a giant too.  LOL

I drive the Accord a lot because I have to take it to Westchester and back when I'm working. I like it.  It's a good car.  (though I do love my truck way more. LOL)

  • I drive a 2011 Hyundai Sonata which I love and DH drives it all the time. He's 6ft. Our goal was to get a monthly pymt under $200 with nothing down (but we leased) and we couldn't do it (amongst the cars we were interested in). We paid 0 down, but with taxes, title, and all the other fees we paid about $700 when it was all said and done, and our monthly pmyt is $227. It has plenty of backseat room for a carseat and a huge trunk. We love it.

DH has a Ford F-350 ....so that's no help to you at all.

  • we just got rid of our honda civic - purely to get something bigger - but that was a good car for DH (it was his before I even came along, lol).

now we have 2 SUVs - Ford Escape and Chevy TrailBlazer- both of which DH likes

  • dh drives a 2010 subaru legacy.. he swears by it.. when his lease is up he is just going to finance the car. however, our payments aren't in the 200 dollar range. i wish!

i drive an 09 nissan rogue. dh hates how it drives. however, he test drove the nissan murano and liked it. we're in the same boat. my lease is up in april. we are looking for affordable cars. i like the kia sorrento, ford escape, and hyundai tuscon

Hello. I've waited here for you. Everlong<3<br>
  • My DH drives an old beat up Ford Explorer.  He is 6'2 and likes big cars.  His car is falling apart and next we'll probably lease a GMC terrain, smaller and better on gas. That'll probably be $300 or so a month.

    I drive a Honda CRV which I love.  I pay about $300 a month.

  • I wish for $200 or less a month.. NEVER have we been lucky with lease or buy.

DH is tall and we have had our range or cars.

03 Chevy Caviler (he loved that car, I hate 2 door cars)

300$ 06 Subraru STI leased, our favorite of all time (5speed)

360$ 06 Chevy Colorado- owned- SUCKass car everything that could go wrong went wrong, and it was 3 years old when we got rid of it

595$ 09 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi- he loves it, I love/hate it, very roomy sucks on gas

Own out right 97 Ford Explorer- It gets from A to B but we have had issues. sucks at gas

    Personally I hate American cars,

I will go with a Toyota or Subaru next time I buy a car personally.

  • Right now DH has a 2005 Chevy Impala. Its a mid-size to larger sedan. He loves it. Before this he had a Subaru WRX (which is a very small car) and he also loved it. He's not 6 foot though.

I have the SUV(2010 Toyota Highlander) for when we need something roomier. I used to have the Mazda 6i and I LOVED it. It was roomy still very sporty and a nice smooth ride. My favorite car ive ever had.

I have an '07 Honda Civic that I really like.  DH likes driving it too (but he's only like 5'9").

DH has a '10 Acura TSX that he loves.  It's pretty roomy inside and is a very comfortable ride.  I've driven it a few times and actually like it better than my car.

  • DH is 6'5'' and he drives an Altima.  It has plenty of leg room for him and there's enough room for someone to fit behind him in the back.  We've had the car for a little over a year and we really like it.  But unless you lease one or put a huge amount down you won't be able to do $200/month payments.

We have more of a size problem with my car (Jeep Liberty).  NO legroom at all for DH.  The carseat can't fit behind EITHER of our seats, only in the middle- and I'm only 5'5''!!  If it wasn't paid off and running fine I'd probably be looking for something new....

  • My hubby is 6'5" but has long legs. He hates all my cars. His knees hit the dash. We have an 03 4Runner.

He likes things that sit like a truck. So mini van's are something he is trying to get me to get. Otherwise SUV's build on truck frames (fords) vs car frames are good too.  Good luck on the 200 per month. Unless you have a bunch to put down we have never been able to do it.

  • Good luck getting something in the $200 range. In 2001 I bought a vw jet brand new with 6k down and my payments were $273 a month. I leased my next car - a pilot and I got a deal for $279 a month back in 2005. This time around my payment is over $400 for a new pilot with 13k down and thanks to h's good credit score a 2.9% interest rate. As for cars for people 6 feet+ a couple of tall guys at work have newer civics with a carseat on the opposite side in the backseat. A couple of others have accords. I know that with gas prices new ones are selling at ticket price, but they last over 200k miles. I don't know from experience but what about a Kia? Would that help to get your payment down since they are less expensive cars?

  • Thanks for the input girls. I know a 200 payment is a little unrealistic.  But since we pay so much for DH's suv we really need to have a really low payment on our next vehicle.  Im going to do some research!

  • The best tips I can share is go with check in hand.  So basically get your financing before you go to the dealership, because basically you can say you are approved and can leave today with it, just gotta sign on the line.

LIE- by saying you found the car at XYZ for cheaper.  or xyz will give you XXamount for a trade in.

WALK AWAY-  If they don't give you want you want walk away, they will call.

I got our RAM from 43K to 25K by saying another dealership would do XX and I want XX.
