Question about my knock outs...

When the roses bloom and then die off do I just leave the empty base or do I need to cut it off? I am a newbie to planting so I do not speak green thumb. However I planted in March and nothing is dead yet! lol

Re: Question about my knock outs...

  • I find I get more blooms if I cut the dead ones out. It's also recommended that you feed your roses monthly, but I haven't been to a store to buy it yet.

  • Thanks for your help! I will cut them then. I was a bit afraid it would hurt it. I will look into food also. I just got rid of some stupid beetles. grr....
  • Use Bayer Adanced Rose and Flower  3 in 1.  It's a fertilizer, as well as gets rid of bugs and disease.  I do it 3-4 times a year starting in March.

Mix it with a bucket of water and pour into the roots.

  • I bought double knock outs almost two years ago and have never fertilized or used anything but water on them. It wasn't blooming a whole lot so I started "dead heading" them and now I have three vases of roses in my house from it. Just cut off the flower as close to the hip (I think that is what it's called, the little bulb-like thing) as you can. :) And congrats son nothing dying yet!

I have been getting 3 to 6 blooms a week which isn't bad but I hope I get bunches more from this AND I hope those stupid beetles stay away! Thanks for the congrats. :-)
