Good Morning All!
How was everyone's weekend?
I got to work, and realized I forgot to put on my dress shoes. I slipped on my dirty ol' flip flops when I brought out the garbage and never switched to nicer shoes.
Re: Monday Musings.
Good morning! My weekend was okay. It mostly consisted of doing yard work and housework. And it was way too hot for either, especially on Saturday. It wasn't very enjoyable. Ah, well. Such is summer.
Juli, I made your Mexican rice and bean salad recipe and served it in whole-grain tortillas. It was great! Thanks for the recipe. And tonight for dinner we're having mock tuna salad and the mandaran orange and almond salad. I love your recipes!
Woo Hoo! Glad you liked it! I seriously love that Mock Tuna Salad too. :-) I made a recipe I think KtotheO recommended, or a variation of it - quinoa taboulleh and we really liked it - served chilled it was very fresh and light tasting. I had to add a bit more salt and I might try adding some feta cheese into the leftovers or maybe diced Kalamata olives, it's a bit mild (but good) but might need one ingredient with a bit more oomph.
Wop - I feel you on the A/C. Except we don't even have it. We got through last summer with just a few window units. At the end of last summer, we decided we could go one more summer like that before investing in the upgrade. Now I hate last summer us. We were stupid! We should have made the upgrade - the price will only go up and then we would have gotten one more year's use out of it.
Our weekend was nice. On Saturday, we did a test run of Mike's route to work on our bikes. It is 18 miles round trip - but kinda hilly. I had to walk my bike up one hill because I couldn't do it. I blame the heat. It will be a lot easier for Mike when he only needs to do 9 miles at a time. Then we hit Festival. Yum.
On Sunday we rode another 18 miles starting in Grand Haven. I had packed a picnic for us for after the ride and then we walked around a bit. I was too tired to make dinner so we walked to get pizza.
We had one not so fun situation this weekend - we brought the dogs over to the IL's while Andy brewed some beer - the IL's were out of town. Since it was hot, we let the dogs in the house where MIL's parrot, Patch, was out of his cage (he's almost always out, but just hangs out by the cage). Well, Gordie, being a dog, went after the parrot. It was scary (Andy was outside and said he just heard me scream bloody murder) - G had Patch knocked to the ground and in his mouth - but he must have just been gumming Patch because he seemed okay - no puncture wounds, no bleeding and could still fly - just shaking. :-(
It's hard, because we're so used to Toby (who is so docile and submissive) and G is completely the opposite that I almost forget I need to be more aware of these situations. We're still trying to figure out how to deal with his aggression, dominance and anxiety issues. I still take the blame - we should have put Patch away since G had no experience with a bird in the house and was really just being a dog. I just felt pretty crummy about the whole thing - I'm very thankful Patch was okay, MIL has had him for about 20 years now.
Thanks for letting me vent.
Ditto this. Sounds like this could have been much worse. I'm glad to hear that Patch wasn't injured.
Sounds like Gordie knew deep down that he shouldn't hurt Patch, but maybe he just wasn't sure how to handle the situation with a bird in the house.
Sounds like everyone had a lovely weekend! Our was pretty laid back (definitely needed!) lots of housework/yard work on Saturday and a graduation on Sunday. I'm covering for my coordinator today and our first tutor didn't come in, so here I am, hanging out in the room all alone. Glad to have some time to finally nest though!
Juli-Glad to hear the parrot was okay and that the situation ended as it did. Don't be too hard on yourself, just keep it in mind for the next time a situtation like that comes up.
So, the mock tuna recipe. I tried it this weekend, and it is AMAZING. I had to pass it along to the fam as well. Thanks for posting it, I'm in LOVE.
I said that to Andy too - if he had him in his mouth and didn't hurt him, it seems like he wasn't trying to kill him - if we had wanted to hurt him I assume he could have. I can't be mad at G and I really don't blame him. I guess I just get frustrated with it though and mad at myself.
Does that sound right?
Wow - Scary! I hope the doctor's visit goes well and it's not something worse. Keep us posted!
I know a couple of people who've had ovarian cysts and I've heard that the pain is absolutely awful. Glad you're feeling better now.
It's possibly your alternator.
Just had the alternator replaced 5 months ago. havent had a new battery in the vehicle since I bought it in 2007
That's what it sounds like to me too, Chymes. Glad it's done, and hope you have a great weekend!
-and did anyone else, for just a second think WOP was suggesting that Chymes had an alternator problem?
And the money drain continues. My home computer has a virus. I'm taking it to our computer repair guy for work. And we are having electrical issues. We have been having this issue for months, however TH didn't think it was a big deal and he could replace a switch and problem solve. It now causes a drain on the upstairs system. I called our electrican that we use for work and he is going to come to fix it. Currently he can't make it at least for two weeks, but he said if the problem acts up again, he will move people around.
I've been swamped at work. We have a big event on Sat, so you probably wont' see me around much this week. After Sat, I will need a drink though.
Um, it sounds like you (GVSU) need a drink every night this week to gear up for Saturday. And all the other crap. Yowza.
It was a kidney stone!!!!!!
No wonder I thought I was going to die. Doctor thinks there was only one, and that it's passed. I hope to high heaven he's correct.
The week HAS to get better from here, if that's how Monday morning starts...right?
