the final debate

Wow, I was yelling at the TV the whole time. I won't say who I was for or what not, but I do have to say that while I'm very pumped for who I stand behind, I'll be happy when all of this over. 11.4.08- history will happen in some way or another- either a woman as a VP or a African American as the president. Thats what I tell my students when they start talking smack about each side (they are 6 graders who really dont hav ea clue, lol)

Re: the final debate

  • I didn't even watch it, I am trying to limit my stress levelWink

  • After McCain's comments tonight- I'd find it hard to believe a rational teacher could be anything but offended! I'm offended for you all!

Well yeah, many of his points make me yell at the tv, but I didnt want to start a political debate...thats why I was erring on the side of caution.

  • cmeon - I completely agree!  That was the only point that I truly wanted to jump through the TV and strangle McCain.  I couldn't believe what I heard and still don't, so I'm going to look for the transcript this morning to check my hearing.

  • That was a frustrating debate!  Glad it's over & can't wait to vote!
  • I turned it off...what did he say to offend teachers?
  • Tons. Lets see--- we should let anyone in the military leave the military and become a teacher with no exams. Apparently teachers are interchangable. Hmmm, lets see what else- lots on school vouchers. He also made a big fumble basically saying that S.Palin's son had a different disability then he does....
  • I found the transcripts....wow. Yeah you would think he would get it right that he has DS and not autism, that is crazy....all of us know that and we don't know her personally like he does!

Yeah I'm not cool with military not having to take a test to teach, wtf? I had to take LOTS of tests as did any teacher and so should someone who gets out of the military. What about military people without degrees? We are going to let them teach...That is just strange in my opinion.

I couldn't believe he mixed that up. Autism and Down Syndrome are NOTHING alike. I'm guessing the average person didn't catch that, but I'm sure that parents of kids with either condition were totally shaking their heads over that one.

  • Why would he just blame teachers...we know that is not the issue. Here in Orange Co. they sent tons of A teachers to F schools. My ESOL teacher was one of them and hated it. But anyways........... that particular school remained an F because it has to do with the kids at that particular school. Maybe we should address parents on the issue of failing schools.
  • my son was undergoing testing for autism so I was totally offended by all of that.

Not only did he keep implying that Palin knows ALL about special needs (and he did seem to use "autism" interchangeably -sp- with special needs), and with all due respect to any mother who will have to care for a special needs child, but the baby is only 6 MONTHS OLD.  How much could she REALLY know about it in 6 months?  I'm sure she has done a lot of research, just like we all would, but McCain kept saying something to the fact that she's been dealing with special needs for most of her life.

Unless there is someone else in her family that we don't know about, the last 6 months to a year, hardly seems long enough to become an expert on it.

  • I finally decided who I'm voting for.  As a teacher, you can probably guess...
  • LOL Jacki!

Agreed...he should have used the word "special needs" if he wanted to include all spec. needs children.
