runners -- stupid question...
DH and I are running in our first race this weekend. The race info says no headphones. Does that mean I can't use my ipod? Like I said, we have never run in a race before and just figured we'd be able to use our ipods/earbuds. Are earbuds different that headphones? I know this is s stupid question, but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: runners -- stupid question...
99.9% of races have the no headphones rule. I believe this is for insurance reasons but I'm not sure. This does not meant that they will pull your ipod off you or disqualify you. It's more of a 'we prefer you to not wear them for you own saftey' type of thing. Oh and headphones does mean earboubs or whatever.
In short wear you ipod if you want. You will definately not be the only one!
Good luck on your race!

It's a safety thing to ensure the runners are aware of surroundings and able to hear other runners. All of DH's races said no headphones but there were usually several people who did anyway.
I've never seen a runner be pulled from the run because of it though sometimes they will DQ a runner who 'placed' in their grouping if they ran with headphones.

I always tell my runners to run with just one earbud in if you are going to do it. That way you can hear what else is going on around you and not be in lalaland. However, I have used them before for races when you are not suppose to have them, it is just strongly encouraged not too.
