is it too late to start?

im in zone 6, is it too late to plant a veggie garden?? it's my first one so i was just going  to stick with some basics- tomato, zucchini, peppers, herbs, maybe a few others, tia!

  • If you buy plants, probably you'd be fine. Check the tag, they should give a range of days from transplant to harvest. It'll probably look like (43-56). Go with the smallest number you can find.

    Herbs should be fine, you don't have to wait as long for leaves as you do fruits. Some like basil, you can probably still do from seed. Once the hottest part of summer has past, sprinkle some lettuce seed out to extend your season. Some might even be ready before all your tomatoes are done.

  • I think it's too late to start from seed, but you can buy plants.  I'm in zone 7 and recently planted tomatoes, sweet pepper, hot pepper, eggplant, okra, and zucchini plants.

    You can still start winter squash from seed right now.
