Yellow fungus on mulch

I recently planted azealas with harwood mulch and have found yellow fungus, which continues to grow.  Does anyone know about this?  Is it harmful to my plants?

Re: Yellow fungus on mulch

  • There is something called Dog Vomit Fungus.  I know....gross.  It's actually a slime mold. I kick it aside and it goes away. There are some sites on google that says bleach will kill it.

If that's what it is, it's harmless.

  • It's fine; it's not hurting anything.  If you don't like the way it look you can turn the mulch over.

  • We get that too.  It's gross looking but harmless.  We scoop it up with a shovel and throw it away.  I think you're supposed to be careful because if you disturb it too much when doing this, you can release the spores, which will just grow more.  HTH!
