We met some friends on Saturday night and this topic was brought up. I thought I would post it here to add some "conversation" to the board.

When we started dating, he wasn't 21 yet. It wasn't a "problem," but one time we were headed into a house party and he made me pull the cooler down the street to the house in case a cop drove by!!!!

-Prior to DH, what was the largest age gap between you and someone you dated. If it was significant, did it cause problems? 5 years. He was older. No, not really. I was a teenager, though and he wasn't, so I went to school every day, etc. and he went to work. It was okay.

-How much older? Ten months and one week, although I pretend that it's a great deal more. He plays along.

DH is older...5 years older. Although last week DH was carded for a lottery ticket!! I laughed under my breath and when she saw his ID, she could not believe he was 26 (about to be 27 in two weeks). She also couldn't believe we were married because we looked so young.
She also so kindly mentioned that I look older than my DH....
DH is older but only by 12 days. I still like to call him old man during those 2 weeks.
The largest gap prior to him was about 6 or 7 years. I don't think the age was a problem, but the fact that he had 2 kids and I wasn't really ready for that was.

Bill's older than me for most of the year. I call him Methusalah and I tell him I don't do diapers.

If it was significant, did it cause problems? I don't recall seriously dating anyone with more than 2 years difference. No, it never caused any issues.

Yay, y'all have close birthdays like us! I think it is kind of fun to get to celebrate so close together. We are both turning the big 3-0 this year, so it is going to be a big joint party.

The year of our 5th anniversary, we both turn 40. I'm planning on throwing him a surprise party. I will invite family and friends and I'm sure he'll wish that I didn't do it but I don't think he's ever had a surprise party thrown for him.

DH is older than me by 7 years but you would never guess.
I was actually going to ask you how Ben handles being younger than you but you answered it for me! BIL is dating a woman 9 years older than him and it took him some time to get used to, supposedly. He's always gone for younger women.
I had one when I turned 13. I sort of figured it out. I still had a great time. I think everyone deserves a surprise party.
Ben's last 2 girlfriends before me were my age or older. When he was like 25, he dated a 38 year old!

This almost exactly. I'm a year older than DH, minus about ten days. I love our birthday month. Last year, we went on a little birthday getaway for each of us (the beach his b-day weekend, San Antonio my weekend) and this year we're going to Las Vegas right in the middle of our birthdays to celebrate both of ours.
We also almost always open our birthday gifts to each other at the same time -- on his birthday, since he absolutely can't wait once he buys me something. It's pretty cute.
The biggest age gap ... when I was 18 I dated a 24-year-old. It didn't work at all, mainly because of the age difference ... all he wanted to do was go places I couldn't go. And he was into serious relationships ... he'd already been engaged once, though it didn't work out. I just wanted to go on dates and have fun, not have a boyfriend/be serious about anything. But while dating me (I was a freshman in college) he realized he wanted to go back and finish the degree he'd almost completed then abandoned for a F/T job ... and several years later, I heard that he graduated. I know it was mostly him, but I feel a little bit of pride that I helped him get there.

Before DH was what was the biggest age gap? Did it cause issues? I dated a guy that was 27 and I was 17. We worked together and I thought he was in his very early 20's (he was going to college and had jsut started) and he thought I was 18 almost 19. We dated about a month before we realized the huge gap. It didn't cause any issues in the relationship except that we were pretty certain it was illegal. I also found out later he had a kid and lots of baby momma drama so glad that didn't go anywhere.

-Prior to DH, what was the largest age gap between you and someone you dated. If it was significant, did it cause problems? Well, we started dating when I was 19, almost 20. So, REAL relationship wise (not just casual dates)... it's been about the same age gap if not smaller.
