I've only been watching for about 20 minutes. I don't have a lot of time to watch today - so someone else who is watching feel free to update.
Right now they have the guy who tested the car for chloroform. Baez is objecting to pretty much everything he says "testifying outside of his scope of knowledge/practice" whatever... Judge Perry over rules everything.
He is a typical scientist for sure, lots of big words, detailed explanations.. it's kind of cute. But I can imagine the jury is like "omg information overload."
Scientist just said, "Now, what's cool about that." lol.. Baez is objecting..again.
Uhm. anyways- So the amount of chloroform found in the car was massive. The witness said it was more chloroform than he's ever seen in his 20+ yrs of testing.
Kind of interesting. overwhelming amount of information.
Re: Monday - CA cvg
That's what it sounds like to me. He said a whole bunch of stuff-
I think he also said that chloroform can come from soil/vegetation or whatever else can be found in a trunk but the levels of chloroform found from that are much lower. He said they tested another car that was in a junk yard as a control...
that was all really confusing for me- but what I got from it was that the level of chloroform was not from some dirt in the trunk.
IMO- Judge Perry is getting fed up w/ Baez.
He just told the state/defense that over the lunch recess they need to read some page of some book so they have a better understanding of some law..
I know, that was real specific.. but he said, "so we can make this go a little expiditiously" (uh faster?).
LOL. Sounds like Perry has realized that, at this rate, this trial is going to drag on longer than anticipated.
Me too. This is the first trial I've ever watched (I was in 5th grade for OJ, which is the only other big trial I can think of right now)... so I can't compare him to other Judges, but he seems to have the Jury in mind. He has made several references about the jury being sequestered for a long period- and last week he told the jury that he was trying to get them a better lunch.
I love when judges are so considerate towards the jury. I served on a jury once, and our case only lasted a week and the judge was sooooo nice to us, always making sure we didn't need a break, etc. It really makes a difference. You don't want to jury getting angry/bored/unfocused! Keep 'em happy!
Generally the judges I've seen in long cases like this do their best to make the jury as comfortable as possible. It's such a sacrifice for these jurors to take so much time out of their lives for their civic duty, so it's really great to see a judge appreciate that and do what they can to keep them comfortable and happy.
Go Judge Perry!
