groupon deal- Malty Dog Brewery
I was thinking of getting this and some brewing supplies for dh for Father's Day. Anyone ever been here? Anyone brew their own beer/wine? Wondering the real cost of it all.
Anyone know if this would be ok to go to alone? (we don't have a babysitter so I can't go with him. And I'm not sure if he'd have any work friends to go with)

Re: groupon deal- Malty Dog Brewery
My BIL is a home brewer. It's not as easy or cheap as you think. Initial costs are high, there is a lot of equipment you need to buy. Now, over time, his equipment has paid for itself and it's cheap for him, but he's been brewing for probably 7 years now I would say.
Making your own wine is fairly simple, I've done it with my SIL, but again, we used the large drums that my BIL has for his beer brewing so that's why the cost was low for us.
If this is a place where they provide the equipment and you brew it right there and then pick it up when it's done that's entirely different. That would be a good gift. I certainly wouldn't be going out and buying all the drums, funnels, etc. that you need to do everything at home. It's a lot of work, time, and effort, and it's easy to screw up and brew some nasty beer.

They do have the option to brew there... so you'd recommend that? Maybe I'll call today to see how much that would be. I know dh has toyed with the idea of brewing his own beer before. I'd LOVE to do wine. We actually drink more wine than beer- but that's probably because we both will drink wine and I won't drink beer.
