Re: OL Tuesday

  • Dear everyone,

I am trying to not get mad or upset... because I feel a little snotty for being that way about this.  But, we have a client that sent us a graduation annoucement for her daughter.  They had me just write a card out to her, and include a $200 gift card in it.

You know what I got from my company for the wedding?  Nothing.  In fact, 3 couples RSVP'd yes and didn't show.

And to boot, we have a kid in the office (PT basis) that is graduating this year as well.  When I mentioned that, one owner said, "who?"  Like he didn't even know who the kid was.  We have 23 people in my office.

    - Irritated nestie.

It appears your company values your clients more than they do their own employees.  I can see catering and 'fawning' over the clients, but without wonderful employees to do all the work - there would be no clients to fawn over.  It would piss me off, too.  :(

That's exactly how I feel.  And it probably wouldn't even upset me as bad as it does if I'm not the one that has taken on the role of the organizing birthdays (buying cards and cakes), office functions, wedding send-offs, graduations, baby showers... EVERYTHING... and then when my day comes, I got nothing.

Sadly, I am so upset over this, I want to grab my things and just walk out.  I've always just thought that maybe they just don't do anything for anyone... but they HAD ME WRITE THE CARD OUT TO HER!

  • Of course I won't. But my feelings are hurt.

Oh, Brianna, I'm so sorry!  I feel terrible not just for you but for your intern and all your co-workers who are too dense to realize that one person can't do it all.  Hugs.

Tell the kid that works in the office to send in a graduation announcement. If your boss doesn't even know his name, maybe he can score a $200 gift card too. :)

  • I'm sorry Brianna, that's tough. :(

What if you abruptly resign from the party planning role?  Would that make anyone think, "oh crap, we messed up" ?

Ha, nope.  It just probably wouldn't get done.  And I hate the idea of people not having little things celebrated, because I know how much it means to me.

ETA:  GM girls, do any of you add flax to your smoothies?  I saw that too and it seemed like a good idea.  But I wonder if it would make it gritty?

I've read that flax SEED is useless because it just passes through your system and has no actual benefits.  Instead they suggest flax meal or flax flour...we have some but I don't know the correct name because with it being ground up, it does have benefits.  I have no idea how much truth there is to that though but it makes sense to me.

    imagestephiehall:

Yowza $400?  Eeeek, I will have to find someone cheap if Melodie does senior pictures.  I really hope she will but it's a longshot.  *sigh*

I have been trying to find a reason to take $150 worth of pictures but I can't come up with anything.

I was going to ask how much their normal session is because I'm getting my grandmother family pics for her 70th bday so I've been researching but now I don't have to ask :)   There are lots of photogs that do mini sessions, around that price.  Or even full sessions for that amount.

Is Lynn Michelle around the same price for a session as McG?

  • Tiffany,

I hope she does another one next year, the earliest I can get Matt to agree to do more pics is for our anniversary.

    Brianna,

That sucks and it sounds like you are in a no win situation.  Sorry :(

     Stephanie,

I sometimes put flax or chia seeds in mine.  Flax doesnt make it grainy at all but I prefer chia seeds over flax you just have to drink it shortly after its made because chia will change the texture over time.

The last time I paid for a session with Lynn, it was $350. That was over 2 years ago. I don't know what her prices are now.

  • Speaking of couponing, my grocery bill for the last 2 weeks (for generally the same items) has been at least $20 more than normal.

I think the stores are reacting to all of these extreme couponers by driving up prices!!

  • Dear Brianna, that totally stinks -- what a slap in the face!  I honestly don't know that I would be able to hold my tongue in such a situation.  You're a bigger person than I.  *hugs*

Because I feel like I'm being whiney and gift-grabby... when in all reality, it's not the gift iteself that bothers me, it's the principle of it.

I just mentioned to my immediate boss about the grad in the office... he said "who" as well.  When I told him who - he said "well, he's part time... I think a card is great."

    Who are these people?!

  • Dear Stephie, Regarding flax seed, yes you must grind it up.  You can buy it already ground up or just use a coffee grinder or magic bullet for maximum benefit.

I don't think it's because of the ladies who like to buy 40 bottles of mustard.

I've been reading and hearing from those outside of Texas (Can't remember if they live in the north or the east coast) but their grocery prices have been going up since last summer so I figured sooner or later it would be hitting us too.  Combine the increase in gas prices and the weather wreaking havoc on some of the crops, it makes each thing more valuable.

Last year at this time I was able to get 10 ears of corn for $1; now it's being advertised at 5 for $2.

    Good Point.

We usually keep a frozen pizza on reserve, and I went to get a Digiorno last night at Kroger and I kid you not they were well over $9.   Um, I'd just order a pizza before I'd pay that much.

I lol'ed at this.  My friend who is nine months pregnant posted on FB this morning that she got stuck in line at Target behind an extreme couponer (she had an accordion file).  She was not happy, although she might have had a more humorous view of the situation if she hadn't been nine months along.
