DH help

Curious to see how much your DHs help around the house/yard.

Been married for a year and we are still learning the perfect balance to divvy up household responsibility (we both work full-time).

Re: DH help

  • I don't know if you are a fanatic about cleaning, but I like my house to be done a certain way, so I pretty much keep the house clean and laundry done. Inside, DH will clean up the kitchen when he cooks, and will put a load of his work clothes washing. That's about it, and all I am willing to let him do. hehe. But he pretty much does all outside work. He likes his grass cut a certain way, he weed-eats, blows the driveway off, keeps the vehicles clean... He is always tinkering around outside. Oh and he will sometimes come grocery shopping with me. You just have to find what works for y'all.

  • I do the majority of the cleaning inside of the house and he takes care of everything outside. I only work 30 hours a week right now (about to go PRN) and he works around 60, so I'm pretty content with him picking up after himself, rinsing out his milk cup, and getting his dirty laundry in the hamper.

I tried to get him to fold laundry once, but was told that "girl clothes are too weird" to fold and got back a basket of wrinkled shirts. I think it's possible he did it on purpose, since I've told him for the last two years I didn't know how to start the weed eater.

  • I think we are pretty close to 60/40 as well, with me doing a little extra.  We were at 50/50, but then I started doing most of the cooking.  He picked up a promotion and with it came longer hours so I'm the first one home now.

At times I feel guilty for not helping out with any of the yard work, but he doesn't touch the laundry and I don't know if he even knows where I keep the mop/broom.

We never have any arguments about it. I was just being nosy to see how it was in everyone's house.

  • DH and I are 50/50. Some weeks less, some weeks more. There are certain chores that I always do (clean the bathrooms, pulling weeds) and certain ones that he always does (clean the cat litter box, washes the cars) and everything else we share or do together. It works wells for us.
  • I think we're pretty equal. DH works 3rd so I can't vacuum or anything when he's sleeping, since we're in an apartment. So he vacuums and he cooks. I take care of the dusting, the dishes - mostly, etc.

Though I do make him clean the cat's litter box, esp. because the cat dislikes me SO very much.
