Sticker Shock!

We have a 3 1/2 ish month old pit mix who is almost due for her last set of shots. During her other puppy shots, we were going to be in NC anyway. She's only been to our vet there. I just called Telegraph Rd. AH to schedule an appointment & I was quoted around $150-$200. Is this normal? That's seriously double what I'm used to paying. If so, that's fine...I just want to make sure they're not super expensive compared to others or anything like that. TIA!

Re: Sticker Shock!

  • That seems a bit high....and our vet is expensive to begin with.  I don't remember any vet visit costing that much (other than Jackson's neutering).

We take him to PetVet in Clarksville.  I'm not how close/far that is for you.  They're located on 108 (right off of 32).  Their number is 410-531-6500.  We took my dogs there growing up and now Jackson - they're super sweet and the two drs are great.

  • That seems very reasonable to me. I'm in Harford County and my two dogs go to Bel Air Vet Clinic at the festival  and that's about how much it runs us for all their shots, plus interceptor (that is just for one dog).

You may want to check out Odenton Vet, right off of 170. My aunt takes her dogs there. I'm not sure how much she pays, but I think it's cheaper then Telegraph Rd in Severn. I think that's why she switched.

    Good luck.

  • Thanks, I'll check into both of those. That price didn't include HW meds. Just the test, vaccinations & exam.
  • That sounds about right to me.  When I take my dog for a checkup it's usually around $150 not including HW meds.
bumping from my phone. please pardon any typos and missing punctuation
  • I go To Waugh Chapel Vet off Rt 3 in Crofton and they are very reasonable. That is more then they charged me to get all of Harley's shots. I left Odenton Vet b/c of some issues with the girls that work there. They constantly were cutting the quick on my dogs nails.  Good luck!

  • If it's just vaccinations I would go through LuvMyPet, they have clinic locations all of MD- http://clinics.luvmypet.com/clinic_search.php

I haven't paid "full price" for shots in years and my vet is the one who suggested going to them, the shots aren't any different, the program is donated tons of money every year to offer affordable vaccinations to the public.

Here is the pricing information- http://www.luvmypet.com/prices.html

I need to check this out- there is a vet hospital literally at the end of our street, but every time we take the dogs there we end up paying $400 for basic shots...

Do they do an exam though prior to giving shots at this clinic?  My concern is that you don't want to vaccinate an animal that otherwise is immune compromised so a general exam, temperature reading, etc is important before vaccination.

Ugh, this is us. I hear $150 and go Damn, that's cheap! Ruby is due for her shots and I KNOW I will leave the vets spending $300+. Seeing as I have already dropped at least 2K at the vets this year, I have been dreading going. I am going to look into this program as well.

  • Thanks NDM! Their prices are similar to what I'm used to paying.
