We used to get our house cleaned twice a month by Molly Maids. Recently we discontinued the service. I hired a housekeeper who canceled the day before she was supposed to start. In a pinch I called the number of an up-and-coming cleaning service that left a flyer on my door. I also called another housekeeper who applied for the job, I kept her number just in case something happened with my original hire.
The new cleaning service came last week and did a great job. Somehow the owner got me to commit to weekly cleanings. I also spoke to the other housekeeper on the phone the same night, and she was so sweet, I hired her. So yeah, I felt so bad but I have no backbone. So now I need to figure something out because both people are supposed to be here TOMORROW.
We wanted to move away from a cleaning service only because with the babies and me going back to work in August, we wanted to give someone a key and for it to always be the same person we can trust in our home. But the cleaning service is a mom and two daughters, they are just starting their own business but have lots of experience and they did a fabulous job. I haven't met the other housekeeper yet but she was so sweet on the phone, is a little bit cheaper, and has 20 year old twins! (Not that it really matters, but we just got to talking about stuff and before I knew it I was saying "see you Wednesday.")
So what would you do? I have to call someone tonight. I hate stuff like this. When my post was on care.com I hated even e-mailing people back to say we already filled the position.
Re: WWYD - I'm such a wimp!
First, I would get a backbone. Second, I would call the people you have met and who did a great job and confirm your appointment. And third, the other lady needs to get a call canceling her appointment.
Do you want me to do it for you? I'll pretend to be your H's assistant.
LOL.
EVERYONE is going to be nice on the phone. well, not everyone. but anyone w/ common sense and customer service. I say stick w/ the mother/daugther trio that have already cleaned your house and whom you liked.
Just make up an excuse when you call that after looking at your finances money is tighter than normal and you just cant afford it right now. I am a huge wimp! That is what I would do.
I wish I could have a person clean my house.
Hahaha Nicole...great advice! You can make important calls for me in the future!

The owner is Crystal. Very nice lady...they charge $20/hour per person. So it is about $40/hour but they are quick and efficient.
Well...it didn't go as planned! I was going to take everyone's advice but H said we should meet the housekeeper. She does laundry! So she is coming tomorrow, I cancelled the cleaning crew for the week and I will decide after tomorrow. I really do hate this kind of stuff!!!
Well, maybe he's right. Maybe the housekeeper will turn out to be just what you guys are looking for! Good luck
Then forget those other ladies. A person to come over, clean and do laundry = perfect in my book.
