Cruise tips

Ok so DH & I are going on a cruise with some friends in a couple of weeks. YEAH! But I've only been one other time (roughly 8yrs ago) and DH has never been on a cruise so we're pretty amateur when it comes to cruising. lol...

Any tips from my fav nesties?

TIA!

Re: Cruise tips

  • Dramamine (sp?).  Even if you don't normally get seasick, its helpful when you're adjusting the first day or two and if the seas get rough.  Also, I would try to read up on the excursions ahead of time and book the ones you know you want to do.  You can book them on the ship also, but the good ones fill up fast.

    Where are you cruising to?

  • Bring Dramamine...just in case.  Motion sickness sucks big time!

  • Smuggle cheap vodka in plastic jugs in your luggage and drink vodka and lemonade out of squeeze bottles all week. Big Smile
  • the Travel board is a good place to ask as well

    have fun!

  • I agree with bringing your own drinks. We did this on our HM. Everything is so expensive on the ship. BUT you have to put it in another bottle they can and will search your luggage. A woman I work with got busted smuggling it on and they took it. She is like 65 so you know they just randomly pick bags.

And I agree with Mara book in advance

  • 1.  Bring a beach bag to take when you get off the ship to carry stuff around in and to bring souvineers back on board with.

    2.  Bring alcohol in plastic bottles like others suggested because the booze on the ship is expensive.

    3.  Buy one soda card and then just share it with your SO, instead of paying for 2.

    4.  The air conditioning on board is freezing usually, so make sure you pack a bunch of cardigans or sweaters to keep you warm inside.

    5.  We brought our portable iPod docking station so we could play music while we were on our balcony or in our room and it was awesome!

    6.  Take advantage of the room service for breakfast, especially if you have a balcony room.  You can eat in bed or on the balcony and it's romantic! :)

    Have fun!!  I'm so jealous!!

  • We smuggled booze on our cruise last summer.  We used these:

and put them in near our toiletries.   Not a single one of us got caught (4 of us had them in our luggage)

Take a travel mug for each of you to carry around your mixed drinks

I bought a cheap plastic over-the-door shoe holder to store all our toiletries since the bathrooms are pretty small

If your ship gives out daily itineraries, take a pen or highlighter to mark the activities you want to do

Keep all your receipts and double check your bill at the end - we were almost charged for not returning 2 towels

  • I'd also like to recommend bringing a small can of spray airfreshner with you. Sometimes the bathrooms can smell faintly of funk/chemical toilet smell. Not to mention you'll be sharing a very tiny bathroom with your husband and it's easy to annihilate the bathroom and have it linger into your room when going #2. We've used the rumrunners before multiple times and never been caught.
