MM Would Judge Me For....

... using paper towels, paper plates & having an iPhone with a data plan that I don't use for work.

What are your "sins" according to MM?

ETA: For reference, here's two recent threads that discuss MM sins & how to save:

Re: MM Would Judge Me For....

  • cable tv (though we just cut out movie channels), my car payment (kind of high, they'd probably say, but i want a very dependable car with side airbags, darnit!) and our best buy payment (new front load, high efficiency washer, dryer and dishwasher, will not pay any interest though!)

  • Um, everything. Use of paper products, 2 iPhones, credit balances, unsecured consumer loan, very small savings. I could go on...

  • My insane credit card payment, but I would argue that it's not my fault because of my shittty XH. My iPhone. I'm also considering buying a band new car, not a beater. Oh, I also stopped paying my house payment and I'm going through a short sale. I'm sure that's frowned upon.

Whaa? You guys really don't keep a budget? At all? That blows my mind.

  • MM would also judge how much we eat out & how much we spend on wine.

  • Um...probably too much to list.

But seriously...paper towels? I refuse to not buy paper towels.

Well, we know what we generally spend monthly and I keep up with our Mint account.  But we don't have strict limits that we stick with, like on groceries or dining out, for example.

  • I don't understand the judging re: paper products. Oookay.

They would judge the length of our car loan. But I have always preferred to have a lower minimum payment, then (usually) pay extra. I'm sure there are plenty of other things they would judge, too.  Good thing I don't need their approval. Stick out tongue

    But paper towels, really??

The expensive of paper products adds up quickly. Easy way to cut your budget.

I can see that. I still say they are a necessity, you just shouldn't be wasteful with them. And buy on sale/with coupons.

That makes sense. We buy the Wal-Mart brand. I guess the alternative would be cloth napkins but that just means more laundry.

They are a convenience, not a necessity. You cloth diaper, right? Same principle. You could just as easily keep washable cloth rags around to use instead of papertowels. Use washable plates instead of paper.

  • They would probably have a field day with us.

We both have iPhones with the unlimited data plan and unlimited texting that we do not use for work.

We use paper towels, paper plates, plastic forks/knives anytime we eat outside - DH uses them as well on the nights he cooks for him and B while I work late.

We also don't have a budget.  EVERYTHING goes on a credit card and we pay it off every month, we just keep an eye on the balance and know when we need to slow down with our spending.

We eat out more than we eat at home.

I go to starbucks almost every week day, DH eats lunch out almost every week day.

We use disposable pull-ups/diapers and wipes.  Its ridiculous how many wipes we go through in a day, especially since B is pretty much potty trained.

  • Paper towels and napkins.

The amount of money we spend eating out.

The amount of money we spend on gifts.

that we  don't 100% stick with our budget

Ok, they are a convenience I'm not willing to live without. Stick out tongue I do use washables for a lot of things but I keep disposables on hand for when I would rather use them (like paper towels).  And I can't get on board with "family cloth" (or "mama cloth" for that matter), even though I CD.

    imageBaby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Flame away, but I think if we were desperate, I think I could use family cloth. I don't think its any grosser than CDing.

As gross as it may sound, DH and I have discussed this for desperate measures. I would try it. I use cloth diapers and they don't gross me out, like I always thought they did.

Yeah... Like I said, they aren't exactly a far stretch from CDing. I mean, at least with the family cloth you only wipe & not have a big ol steaming pile to clean up.

  • I thought of another one.  We forget about clothes in the wash and sometimes 1 load gets washed or dried 2 or 3 (or more) times.  I know its horribly wasteful, but we just forget.

What is this family cloth thing?  Like one cloth that everyone wipes with?

It's the same principle as cloth baby wipes. I know the wipes would be clean,  I just can't get past the idea of sharing.

    imageBaby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Maybe I misunderstood. We would not share. We would have his and hers.
  • That, I could deal with. If I had to.
    imageBaby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Do they get washed in between each use?  If so, I could probably do it.. if not.. I don't think so.

  • I thought of another, DH and I work at the same location but we don't carpool b/c I would have to go in early and he would have to stay late.

That was my thought when I read "family cloth" - I had this idea of one cloth in each bathroom that gets reused.. and no offense to anyone, but that's just nasty.  The whole idea of washing them still freaks me out, which is why I could never cloth diaper either.  I get grossed out now when B has #2 accidents in his underwear.
