hotel near Wrigley Field/Lincoln Park

friends and i are coming to a Cubs game in July.  looking for a nice (and affordable???) hotel near the ballpark and/or around Lincoln Park.  thx!

Re: hotel near Wrigley Field/Lincoln Park

  • The closest "chain" hotels are a Best Western (closest to field) and Days Inn (in Lincoln Park).  The others are sort of older and seem like dumps, though I've never stayed at them. You would be better off checking on expedia or priceline and trying to find a decent priced hotel in River North/Mich Ave./Loop. Anywhere near the Red/Brown/Purple line would work really because you can get to the Addison stop on the Red/Purple lines which is literally a block from the field. Have fun!
  • I agree with Amy.  Days Inn and Best Western are some of the best/affordable hotels on the North side, but they seem to book quickly.

I would definitely avoid the Abbott Hotel (on Belmont) and City Suites (933 Belmont).  We've had friends unknowingly stay at both and were mortified.

Like Amy said; it's pretty easy to get to Wrigley from downtown (about $15 cab ride) and easily accessible with Clark Street #22 bus and the red-line train.  I'd recommend booking via Priceline (just limit your area to be north of the River/Wacker Drive).  We've had success with friends booking via priceline getting great rates at great hotels.

Also avoid the Sheffield House a few blocks north of the field. I had friends stay there a few years ago, they called me at 3am asking to come stay at our place. They said it was like a bad movie!

My parents stayed at the Best Western at 3434 North Broadway St and they said it was really nice.
