SB ladies!

I need a rec for a good, relatively inexpensive Mexican restaurant near Santa Clara University.  Does anyone have any favorites they'd like to share?

TIA!

  • YES!!
    Mexicali Grill

We had our RD there and we go there at least once a month. Good food. Good margartias.  Right off of 101 near Great America. About a 5-10 min drive from SCU (taking surface streets)

Just an FYI-if you plan to go on a Friday or Saturday night, expect parking to be a little busy as it is in the same shopping center as an AMC theater and other shops and eateries.

  • Mexicali Grill is really good, but not super close... it's in the Mercado shopping center (near Great America).  We went there before I graduated from SCU, so I guess that's why I consider it to be close.  Anyway, it's one of my favorites and not too pricey!

  • There is also La Paloma on El Camino.

I have not gone there before (shocking since I pass by it all the time)

  • I haven't been to La Paloma either (surprisingly) but I have heard it's good.  I really like Pedro's, which is kinda near Great America on Freedom Circle.  It's not super cheap, but not super expensive either.  Chalateco isn't bad either and that is cheaper than Pedro's, but the atmosphere isn't as nice (it's the super bright yellow building on the Alameda - I ).  If you want laid back you can try Henry's (Franklin St.) or Mondo Burrito (Benton).  I really like both of those.  El Toritos is on Bowers I think.  There is also a good hole in the wall mexican place down El Camino called El Amigo Burrito.

Lots of good places around SCU!

ETA:  OOPS!  I totally meant that El Amigo Burrito is on Stevens Creek, not El Camino!

  • I ate at La Paloma a few years ago, and remember it being tasty. Mondo Burrito is goood stuff (although I always ate it as hangover food, so that might say something about it...).
  • I used to live right around the corner from La Paloma and ate there a couple of times.  I prefer either Mexicali Grill or Pedro's, though.  It's cheap but wasn't all that tasty, and the decor/atmosphere at Mexicali/Pedro's is much nicer.

  • I live right by La Paloma & it doesn't really do much for me. I love El Amigo Burrito on Stevens Creek.
