Random question for the Moms
When your water breaks, how much fluid comes out?
I know I'm obv. far away from this at this point but I just can't help but wonder. Is it just a bit as if you "snissed" or is it a big gush that nothing, not even a "bladder protection" pad, could have contained? I'm just trying to be prepared as I have a fear of having my water break while in my boss' office and have it either go all over his rug or chair (if I'm sitting). If it's not enough to soak through a pad, I think I'll end up just starting to wear one when I get closer to my EDD.

It depends on where the break in your water is. If it's down low, you'll have a big gush. If it's up higher to where the sides of your ute would bloock a big gush from coming out, it will be more of a trickle.
I personally had my water broken by the doctor, and it was a HUGE gush of fluid and it was the single most disgusting thing I've ever experienced.
So, there you go. That's what you have to look forward to!

Great, maybe I'll forgo the pads and just wear adult diapers when I get closer.
I seriously am afraid of this happening at work. That or it happening at home and my beagle mix ( who eats EVERYTHING) running over & licking it up thinking it's water. YUCK!

Ewwwww! That would be horrifying! Fingers crossed that it won't be bad for you.
Good to know ! I'll just have to start standing more at work when I'm in meetings or going over stuff with my boss. I know it's something I obviously cannot control but it would be really embarassing !!! My boss seriously freaks out if someone drops a paperclip or staple in his office and doesn't pick it up. Who knows how much worse it would be with amneotic fluid!

Considering that less then 15% of women have the water break on their own, the chances of this happening are fairly slim, so don't stress.
I had mine broken at the hospital and like most PP, it was a huge warm gush that soaked everything. I got my epi right after, and the water kept coming out as they had me sit and lean forward to administer it. It was seriously disgusting.
One of the many reasons I'm pretty sure Phoenix wasn't actually ready and my water broke accidently. Also...am I the only one who didn't have their water broken at the hospital?
One thing to also consider is your level of amniotic fluid. Mine was about twice the level its normally supposed to be at so I had like the extreme version of water breakage. So aside from this popping sound (I kid you not) there was definitely an instant gush. I made it to our bathroom pretty quick without getting any on the couch or floor, but my sweats were done, and then I literally sat on the toilet for about 30 mins to let as much out as I could. I was still leaking another 30 or 40 mins later when we made it to the hospital.
My midwife though said that usually if your water breaks, you'll already be in labor.
Oh wow -- I think I'm the minority here. My water broke naturally, and trust me, you will KNOW. There's no mistaking. And as far as I know I didn't have any abnormal levels, either too high or too low. It was definitely a gush... I was lying down and I caught it just in time to save the mattress (yay for mattress pads!) I ran into the bathroom and put on a pad and that was enough to help me until I got to the hopsital, but yeah... craziest feeling ever.
But yeah... if it happens, it happens... you have NO control over it, so I would just go about your business as usual. Just remember that when it DOES happen, without a doubt, you're going to have your baby! I remember that was the first thought that went through my mind when mind broke -- HOLY SH!T this is happening! So there's the upside...
