Career change

Hi all.  I've posted here and there on this board to give interviewing advice.  This is the first time I'm asking for help myself.

Currently, I am a recruiter.  I've been in and around Human Resources for my entire career, spanning back nearly 20 years.  I've recently started a graduate program to earn my MS in Library Science.  Here's my problem:  I don't want to recruit anymore.  At all.  But my skillset is so heavily reflecting recruitment that I don't know where to start to make a change.  I think I would like to move more into an analysis type role in the interim.  I'm just not sure how to make my resume more reflective of what I want to do.

The sad part is that I can redo someone else's resume in the blink of an eye.  Just not mine.

Any ideas or advice as to how to start the transition?

Re: Career change

  • I've done a lot of HR Analysis work, including in recruiting.  I'd look into doing something in that area.  Highlight the software that you have used, like HRIS and Applicant tracking systems.  Include any work you might have done tracking recruiting metrics, like time to fill or percent of offers accepted.  Excel and Access skills help, as would experience related to comp like creating offers.
  • I don't have any ideas or advice personally about your situation but I do have a question! I am currently pursuing my BSHRM and since you have sooo many years in HR I wanted to ask you how can I go about getting experience in that particular field! I am currently in the army  but Ill be getting out in November and that's when Ill finish my degree! I have about 10 classes until I'm done! Do you have any advice? I actually want to be a recruiter too so how would I go about getting into that particular field are there any special courses I need or what? TIA for all your advice!!!

Are you doing anything with personnel management in the Army?  If so, that's direct experience which will translate over.
