Please help ID a shrub and weed/flower (PIP)

I have a stream at the back of my property, and there are two of this shrub growing on the top of the bank.  I think the flowers are so pretty, but I have no idea what it is.  The leaves remind me of rhododendron leaves, but the flowers don't look like rhody flowers - maybe it's a different species of rhody?  Here are three pics - of the whole thing, the leaves and the flowers:

And also, I have this weed/flower growing in my front yard, and I don't know what it is either.  It's in a mostly shady spot that gets some sun in the afternoon, but not for too long.  I didn't plant it, so I assume it's a weed, but I'm not sure.  if it is a weed, I think it's kind of a pretty one, so I didn't rip it out.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Please help ID a shrub and weed/flower (PIP)

  • So, a friend just told me that the shrub is mountain laurel, and it's native here.  She also pointed out that the leaves are starting to look unhealthy, and she's going to bring me food for it to help it out.  Yay!

Still don't know about that weed thing, though . . .

I agree that the first thing is a scrawny looking Kalmia. The bottom picture is Red Clover.
