They are planning on inducing me because I am on a blood thinner. By inducing they have more control over the labor situation. It is ok for me to go into labor on my own but there is a 12 hour time frame that the blood thinner needs to get out of my system before they will do a epidural, etc. It just takes a lot of the unknown guesswork out of it.

  • Which doctor is inducing you?

Hey Tarah! I saw Helmick yesterday and she said she could do it a week from Monday or asked who I would like. I told her Dr. Corsi was my primary so him but if he can't I'd love to have her do it. I have an appt. on Thursday next week w/ Corsi so he can check me again. So it's looking like it will either be Helmick a week from Monday or Corsi a week from Wednesday!

  • Awesome!  Let them take it slow for the induction - my friend had me terrified of being induced because hers went so horribly.  Dr Helmick said that's because most doctors try to nudge it along too quickly - they let me go at my body's pace while still making sure I didn't take too long.  I ended up going 25 hours with my water broken so they did keep me two days to keep an eye on both of us for infections but we were both fine.

Definitely! I've heard induction horror stories but my sister was induced 2 out of 3 times, both with Dr. Corsi and her experiences were both great. The last one took a while but she was pain free and just going at her own pace. I'm hoping it's the same for me!

  • Good!  I think going in not expecting the baby to be born seven hours later is the trick.  Inductions can take a while!  Just relax and enjoy it as much as you can.  I forget the name of the drug but I was starting to feel some pain - they just put it in my IV and OMG it felt like I was drunk but the pain was gone!  haha.  They can't give it to you close to when you'll start pushing but it was a nice option before I accepted the epi.  It let me relax a bit.

  • Were you trying to go without the epi at first? I'm still trying to figure all this out because if I happen to go into labor on my own before the induction date I'm nervous about not being able to get the epi, etc. She did say there were pain meds they could give me through the IV so that must be what you're talking about. So glad to know they helped!!
  • I didn't want to rush the epi either - I wanted to see if I could go without it completely.  If not - I wanted to see what my pain limit was.  I got to a 5 before I rang for the nurse.  They have to let the saline solution empty before they give you an epi - about 45 minutes.  I was asking Jason to squeeze the bag for me!  haha.

They also have this little box - it looks like a mini fridge - in the room where they keep warm blankets.  They kept piling them on me because I was shivering from the adrenaline.  Like full out teeth chattering, body shaking shivers.  Those blankets felt awesome - fresh out of the dryer awesome.
