what does compost look like?
I feel really lame for asking this.
I have a compost bin I started a year ago. In my mind, I always pictured compost to look like coffee grounds. Whatever I have in the bottom of my bin looks more like mud. It wasn't completely wet and muddy, but certainly moist. There was some looser dirt-like stuff too. Is this my compost?
Oh, and my Sun Chips bag that was supposed to decompose...still there.

finished compost looks & smells like dirt. finished compost with too much water looks like mud.
also "biodegradable" stuff must meed an ANSI standard which doesn't happen in most home composting (pet peeve of mine).
