Maybe a stupid question, but...

The soil in my potted plants is like washing away. I am assuming this is normal seeing as they are ALL doing it. My question is, can I just add more on top? Like covering some of the plant. Even my little seed starter things are losing soil. I'm not as worried about hurting just my plants, but I don't want to smother my new little herbs and pumpkins that are beginning to sprout.

Still new at this whole garden thing.

  • Sounds like the soil is or has settled.  Your plants will be fine.

  • I have been doing some reading on gardening, and in both books they mention to add soil.  It is common for soil to erode, by wind or water.  However, the plants still need the soil for growth.  I have a supply of soil and about once a week go around my garden to add more.  It doesn't take long and the plants benefit.  Good luck!
