Apple TV?

Tell me about your experiences. We don't have cable, so we're thinking about getting apple tv as an alternative. Is it as awesome as my husband thinks?

Re: Apple TV?

  • it's pretty awesome. I don't know if it's a replacement entirely for cable, but there is quite a bit you can do.

basically you have the itunes store on your tv. You can download movies and tv shows directly to the tv. You also have access to your itunes library on your computer, and there is an internet tab where you can access these:

    netflix

    mlb.tv

    nba

    you tube

    podcases

    mobile me

    flickr

    radio

  • Thanks for your reply. We haven't had cable in a long time. We currently have hulu plus and netflix, and that's more than enough for us! But occassionally we buy things off of itunes, so it would be nice to be able to watch them on our big TV instead of a computer. Where does it store the files? Does the apple TV have its own hard drive of some sort?
  • Yea, I think it has it's own hard drive.

It's only $99 so, for the price I'd say it's worth it. In fact, I wish I had more than one in our house. Long term, I see myself loading all of our movies onto an old computer and having ATVs on our other tvs so we can access them directly without digging out the dvds.

Even though we have basic cable I still love having my apple tv. We rent movies on it a lot, but it's nice to get series from HBO and Starz ect. since we don't get those channels.

It's also much more worth it now to get as the price has dropped on it a lot since I purchased mine a few years ago.

  • Newer Apple Tv's do not have hard drives. I don't think they currently host Hulu BUT a Roku will and is a very similar product.
