planting lettuce indoors

So I just planted some lettuce indoors in hope of having lettuce in the hot part of the summer. Has anyone ever done this???

Re: planting lettuce indoors

  • I was thinking of doing this. I have planted some outside in a shady area (package said part sun in summer), but they aren't doing so great. I'm worried that they may not get enough sun inside though.
  • I began my lettuce indoors this spring and all I needed was flourescent lights.  They needed 18 hours of light, so we put them in the basement, put the lights on a timer, and set the lights about 2 inches above the soil.  They sprouted just fine and are doing well in our garden.   Check the type of lettuce that you are going to use, some are heartier and will be fine in heat, others will wither and die- you just have to do some research. Good luck!
