anyone live in La Grange or Hinsdale?

DH and I are considering moving there.  There is a possible job opportunity for me.  DH would be working in the city and would take the Metra.  We've been in the city for 8 years and are getting a bit burned out.  However, I'm a bit worried about moving so far out of the city when all of our friends are here.  Just wanted to get some feedback on what it is like there, what there is to do, and how easy it is to meet people.  We love spending time outside, biking, hiking, listening to music, etc.

  • Hinsdale is beautiful, but I don't know alot about LaGrange.  You should check out Downers Grove too.  Downers has a cute downtown, and there are plenty of express trains into Chicago from the Main Street station.  Look up the BNSF on Metra's website.

The 'burbs have plenty of fests and activities in the summer.  I've met people on meetup.com, through church and just in the neighborhood.

    Good luck!

LaGrange and Hinsdale are very close to the city still in my opinion, express trains get you to the city in 20 minutes or so, and driving into the city can be as fast as 20 minutes as well (not during rush hr obvi)  Great areas, tons to do in LaGrange, we don't go out in Hinsdale very often but they have a cute business district too.  And there are so many option in the surrounding towns too.

  • Both are great areas.  My husband and I considered both area's but settled on Westchester (south side area) since we were first time home buyers.  I work in the medical district DT and commute everyday. It is not that horrible.  La Grange has a great downtown area we frequent often.  They have great food there!  Hinsdale is cute and fun a lot smaller then La Grange, but a nice farmers market on Sunday mornings.  Plenty of places to ride your bikes.  Salt creek trail actually takes you right to brookfield zoo!  Good luck on the decision making!
  • I don't, but I have a good friend that lives in LaGrange. Their downtown area is really cute, and it seems like a very 'youthful' and lively town.
