Anyone have one or know someone who does? Up until now I have been taking short video clips on my Olympus Stylus 1050 digital camera. It works fine since I'm not overly concerned with super duper quality, but does eat up a lot of memory and battery if I take a lot of video.
So, I'm looking to get a small video camera for our Disney trip and then just to use for other casual videos here or there. I was looking at the Flip and came across the Kodak Playsport on Amazon. Seems like it would meet our needs and I like that it is more rugged, like our digital camera, and can get wet, dropped, etc and hold up.
Any input? I know some of you have Flips, so I love to hear about those too.
Re: Kodak Playsport Video Camera? (vs Flip)
I had read an article recently that Flip was being phased out -- I don't know if that's still true. I think they are still on the market though-- here's the article http://www.theflip.com/en-us/futureofflip.aspx
I love our flip, its smaller than my iphone and takes really great video! I haven't traveled with it yet, and I am not sure I would bring it to Disney, simply because I didn't take that much video in Disney and I am a Disney minimalist... I usually only carry a very small bag with camera, license and Disney room key... plus Josh's inhaler. Josh carries his room key and phone.
I might play with it beforehand and see what you can get for still shots from the video and then consider just bringing the flip instead of the camera... but I don't know... There isn't much I want video of that I can't just take a picture of..
Yeah, I used to be a Disney minimalist too, but with a 2 year old I don't think it's happening this time. We're taking a backpack and a stroller, so I don't mind carrying around a small still camera and a small video camera. The Kodak one does take still photos that seem pretty decent, so that's an option. I am not usually big on video either, but Eli and I watched some Disney rides and the Disney Junior Live show on YouTube yesterday and his reactions to just that were so priceless that I decided I needed the option for more video.
I've heard the same rumor/report that the Flip is being phased out. We just recieved one as a gift last week from some friends, and so far I love it. It's super easy to use, is lightweight, and the video quality has been really good. I'm not sure what the phase-out will mean for service and whatnot, so I'm going to do some research.
I don't know anything about the Kodak option, but it's great that you can shoot both in video and in still photos, I'm always a fan of multi-purpose items! Good luck with you decision!

The school has several Filps that I have used that work well.
But a co-worker who had a Flip before the school got them and was looking for a new camera around Chirstmas decided to go with the Kodak. I forget why exactly, but something about the new Flip that was available at the time was not going to meet her needs. She films all of her son's basketball games. Either memory size or battery life.
