Paaaain.

I'm not new to the sex world, but have been absent for awhile as my new husband and I abstained for over half of our 3+ year relationships.  We've been married a whole 9 days and are back in the swing of things.  Everything felt normal until we did it Saturday.  I normally feel him hitting me in certain positions but Saturday, I couldn't do much more than missionary without terrible, terrible pain in my lower abdomen and right side.  It was a sharp stabbing that felt like the worst side stitch ever.  What's wrong with meeeeee? :)  I googled it and saw something about pain during ovulation.  Could this be it?  Any advice on making it stop?

Re: Paaaain.

  • Time to see the Doc. It could be sometime simple like ovulation  or a small torn muscle but it could also be a cyst, or something more serious. Docs often do a pressure test, where they gently press down and remove pressure quickly to see what sparks the pain. Better to know than to wait because the last thing you want to do is make it worse or hurt yourself.
  • I get this sometimes. My fiance is very understanding, thankfully, and doesn't force anything more. I was told by my OB that this can happen right before or during ovulation (just as you had mentioned). You're not alone!

  • It could be pain with ovulation. I suggest seeing a doctor. You may want to rule out a cyst.
  • My guess before I finished reading was you are probably ovulating. If it doesnt stop after a few days I would go see your doctor.
  • Ask your doctor about PID, pelvic inflammatory disease,if it starts to hurt at other times as well, but definitely get to a gynecologist ASAP if pain during intercourse has happened more than once.
  • I had this happen once.  It hurt inside my abdomen when I urinated afterwards, and still hurt the next day.  I was able to get in to see my OB/GYN that day.  He checked it out and saw that one of my ovaries was inflamed even though I wasn't ovulating.

He said that my husband might have been thrusting at a slight angle, which effectively made him repeatedly "punch" my ovary.  I was sent home with instructions to take some motrin for the pain, lay off the sex for a few days, use lots of lube and be gentle when using that position.  We also scheduled a follow-up just to make sure everything was OK because there's a history of ovarian cancer in my family.  Everything's been OK since then!
