I know I'm being a huge baby about this, but still.
I harvested broccolli yesterday. I brought it in and ran it under water for a while and shook it good- I mean I thought I cleaned it well. Then I put it in a bowl in the fridge where it has been for about 24 hours. I got it out just now to cook it and a earwig dropped out! Those are my least favorite bugs ever they really creep me out. Now I don't want to eat anything that comes out of the garden ever again.
Does anyone have any advice for me (other than suck it up and rinse it better)? How do you keep from eating bugs?
Re: bugs on veggies
I recently had an earwig infestation. i found that diatomaceous (sp?) earth. works well and is organic. make sure that it is food grade though. it kills crawling insects. I also just found out that broccoli should be soaked in icy cold salty water after harvesting because it gets wormy. also rinse everything very thouroughly after harvesting.
