We have a new kitten, just got him yesterday (someone left a box of 3 outside our grocery store and I couldn't resist). He had a vet appt. today...he's 5 weeks old, eating really well and using the litter box on his own already (fingers crossed it stays like that!). Anyway, we have him all set up in our office since it has hardwood floor but I was wondering how long we should wait to introduce him to the rest of the house? AND, any special tricks for keeping him off my kitchen table/counters. That's my only issue with cats, I'm not excited about him being up in a food prep/eating area.
Re: Cat Owners Come In
Yea for a new kitty! Pics, please!
I don't think you should have any problem introducing him into the rest of the house. Just yell at him if he does something wrong. And if he doesn't listen, get a squirt bottle.
I second the squirt bottle and they also hate a can filled with coins, shake it at them.
I would intro the kitty to the next part of the house tomorrow.
Yay!
PAL/PGAL Welcome
Ditto to the squirt bottle. although I will warn you that Roxy is particularly headstronf (she is almost 2 now) she could give 2 craps about the squirt bottle, if she wants something she is getting it. I can home today and DH tells me that he had to let Roxy out in the sun today to dry off b/c he drenched her b/c she wouldn't stop.. Hopefully if you start early enough you won't have this problem.
Pics please!! and name?
Aw! How sweet!
Yep, you can let him roam the house as soon as you want. We kept our two cats locked in a room during the day and at night until they were about 4 months. It gave us a lot of time to see what they wanted to get into to find any potential safety problems.
Can't help you with the counters! My cats know not to jump up on them when I'm in the kitchen, but have no problem doing so when I leave the kitchen. I just clean them down before I make any food.
Awww..yes, pics please.
Good tip about the squirt bottle. I want a kitten so much, I will have to keep that tip in mind.

How did you use the double sided tape?
Definitely the squirt bottle. Also, you probably won't have to worry about that for a little while since he's so tiny now.
As far as the rest of the house goes, if you have no other cats let him loose.
