B-Day gift help for a 2 yo boy

I have given him a toy car/truck for both his last birthday & Christmas so I'm not sure if I should get yet another one for him. He already has a ton of books and also does not watch any tv yet, so he wouldn't know any random characters (and also so a kids dvd is out of the question).

So, I need some suggestions as to what to get him.

Ask his parents -- I'm sure they have ideas as to what he would want/need?

Outside stuff. Bubbles/bubble machine. Chalk. Kiddie pool (if they don't have one) water toys. Sand toys.

I like the outdoor idea if he's a summer baby! A little chair or toys he can play with outside. Sand box toys if he has a sand box. Bath toys or bath crayons to play with during bath time. I would also ask the patents. Last year I got a two year old a little shopping cart with fake food because the parents bought her a kitchen.

We do that with DH's sister but find the loudest doll that cries

 

I never thought of getting outdoor toys. I think I'll have to check out the seasonal section, now !

Outdoor toys is a good idea, especially for this time of year. If you're ever looking for a website for kids toys, my favorite is mindware.com. They specialize in "brainy toys" so no cartoon characters, movies, etc. They also have toys searchable by age.

Bubbles are a huge hit with 2 year olds. We've had 3 kids in our lives turn 2 since March and we've gotten them all a big container of bubble and some kind of bubble toy to go with it. They have all gone apesh!t over the bubbles. One of our friends found this great item, I think it's by Fischer Price, that is a no spill bubble holder and has 3 or 4 wands that go in it. It's pretty cool.
