Fav "touristy" things to do

My parents are coming in town on Friday and although they visit regularly, my mom requested that we do something "touristy".  I have the day off work and the forecast says it'll be 71 and partly sunny.

Right now my list of ideas include (although I have been watching Groupon, etc for deals); they're pretty active so I think they wouldn't mind physical activity (ie bike ride):

-Architectural Boat Tour

-"The Ledge" at Sears with a water taxi ride (from Madison to Michigan)

-Bike rental along the lake

-Chicago neighborhoods bike tour (although this is kind of expensive at $39ea when I could just show them myself...)

Any of the above you'd prefer? (I've done the arch boat tour but they haven't)

Re: Fav "touristy" things to do

  • Segway Tour

    Chicago Cultural Center Tour

    Brewery Tour

Walking around Millenium Park- check for concerts

    Hancock for a drink/view

Not sure where you live but biking out to Northerly Island is really pretty and more secluded.

Thanks.  We've limited it to the options in OP, but we could do the bike rental and ride to Northerly.  Now I'm debating if it's cheaper to drive downtown and park so we can bring my bike; or if we take CTA and I just rent one since my parents have to regardless

  • My parents are coming down on Saturday and I got the free library pass to go to the planetarium. The library by me has all the museums.

My dad loves to see the bean and Buckingham Fountain every time he comes down here. But we've taken them to Navy Pier before, did the architectural boat tour and the seadog tour a few years back. We might go down to Navy Pier to see the fireworks after dinner on Saturday.

Dang, I should have checked our library.  DH & I have been  to several of the popular museums for free via the library pass.

We ended up renting them a tandem bike and went for a ride on the lake front.  They absolutely loved it.  Thanks for the insight!
