Can anyone recommend a duct cleaning company?
I have been suffering from horrible allergies every time I wake up and I am at my wits end. I've done a thorough cleaning of our room, bed, sheets and pillows and it's driving my absolutely insane. I am thinking it might be that we need our ducts cleaned. Does anyone have a reputable company they can recommend?
Re: Can anyone recommend a duct cleaning company?
I asked about this a week or so ago. The article in the post and the response I got from a few other people I know persuaded me to not get it done. I decided to just vacuum out the vents myself. We've been in our house about 3 weeks. I've only done a few of them so far. On a side note...I found a Beta in one of them! Yep, a real, dead fish in my vent! Anyway, here is the thread:

Someone's getting a little brother!
Have you ever been allergy tested? You sound like me with the sinus issues I had, especially when I would wake up. I found out that I was really allergic to mold. We change the filter on heat/air unit every month, which has helped remove dust, pollen, and mold issues. Also, random things like feathers, which explained why I always had trouble at hotels because of feather comforters and pillows.
Also, getting a true HEPA filter vacuum helped both of us.
I second getting a blood test to find out what you are allergic to. I am allergic to dust mites which is why I don't do real down anymore, and have gotten rid of most of the carpet in our house.
The duct cleaning can't hurt, just make sure you use a reputable company and not one of those shady ones that advertise whole house duct cleaning for less than $100. They are scams. I wish I had some recs for you; its something I have kind of wanted to do for years but never seem to get around to it.
I have awful allergies...5 sinus infections in a year.....We've found a great HVAC guy to replace our HVAC and filters at our old condo and we just moved into a home, where he and his team came and cleaned out our ducts prior to moving in and recommended a UV air filtration system be installed.......So far I only had 1 sinus infection this year and am breathing much better. I've been allergy tested and am allergic to everything except mold.
Company is called Free State Appliance Service out of Hanover, MD.
Good Luck!
