Have you ever listed a personal friend (someone you never worked with) as a reference on your resume or application?

Not usually. I tend to list people I volunteer with before a friend. That being said....when I interview people for my office we request 2 professional and 1 personal reference. Usually that's someone who is a little older then them like a friend's parent or neighbor of sorts.

Not regular friends, but I have in the past used "work friends" when the application did not specifically request a past Supervisor or Manager.

I have, but friends that I've known for a long period of time. I usually put co-worker friends for professional and a long term friend for personal.

I actually had a job ask me for a personal reference to act as a character reference. It was the first and only time it's ever happened - otherwise I list people I have worked with in some nature, whether it be professional or philanthropic.

Thanks for the responses ladies. My MOH, whom I have drifted from, asked if it was okay she put me down.  I don't feel comfortable doing it so I just wanted to see what the norm was.
