names

I am having a hard time. I hate all girl names all of a sudden.

If you had a baby girl today, what would you name her (moms having actual girls don't have to play if you don't want to give away your name)??? I need to  come up with at least a list of names that are acceptable!

Re: names

  • I have a Lacey and I love her name. My cousin gave me the idea. And I also love Lilly

  • Our girl name has always been Emma with Lynn as a middle name
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker image
  • I love the name Layla, but with my last name we probably won't use it.
  • I've always loved Olivia. M and I don't agree on names, so we have tabled even talking about it unless there is actually something to talk about. The only thing I know for certain is Pearl would be our girls middle name.

    eta. I also love Colleen

My favorites for first names in no particular order are Elizabeth, Emma, Lily, and Anna.

I like Jane, Ann, and Elizabeth for middles names (obviously some of those don't go together). Matt doesn't like Jane, which is a shame because my favorite combo is Elizabeth Jane. Regardless, I really want to use Elizabeth in some way.

Names are hard. It's a big decision and I'm sure it is ever harder when you are actually choosing one for real.

I think so too, but M is not a fan of Olivia. But we will cross that bridge if/when we come to it!

  • Here are some names I love, any that end in a vowel sound are off the table due to our last name starting with a vowel....

Lillian (Lily)- We won't use this, but I LOVE it!

    Emma

Abigail (Abby)- totally on the table if we were to have a girl, even with the alliteration in first-last names:)

    Lucy

    Chloe

    Anna

  • I love the name Sophia, Craig isn't crazy about it. Also on our list of girl names, these Craig is on the fence about: Ruby, Mae, Jeannette, and Adelaide (call her Dela).

    Names are so hard!

  • Ha!  Jo, sometimes I think we might be the same person....

I also love Olivia, wouldn't use it though since it ends with an "A", but it's a great name!

    Another vote for Olivia

Grace (could be used as a middle name)

    Renee

    Sabrina

I like the name Margaret (Maggie) and Lucy ( I Love Lucy is my fav show)

  • I will tell you that our girl middle name will be the same as my middle name, which was my grandma's name - Teresa. As for a first name, I'll tell you later, if we ever have a girl.

  • in no particular order -

elizabeth (vetoed since its my mom's name and SILs middle), harper, claire (love), avery, madison, addison, annalise, quinn, emerson, ava, olivia, brynn, kennedy, payton, kaylee, reaghan, megan, corrine

that's basically the ones that got written down and picked from Stick out tongue

  • If Eli was a girl, her name would have been Sydney Ann. (after where we met.) If we didn't have that picked out, I would have wanted to name her Grace Elisabeth, and Justin would have wanted to name her Avery Grace.

I have a running list of them but one that I love but DH doesn't is Naomi... Eliza (my BFF used that one though)... Natalie... Caroline (DHs sister)/ Carolynn (DHs grandmother)...

Are you definitely using your grandmother's name as the MN? Could you do a variation of her name for the first name if not-- like something that starts with an "M"?

I have no idea what we are going to end up with ourselves!

  • On my short list for girls names are:

Abigail (Abby) - despite its popularity, I just love it
    Mia
    Caroline
    Claire

Middle name will be Virginia after my granny.

And basically none of these have been run by Tim because we aren't talking about names until we know what we're having.

  • other names I love that are likely off the table:

    Sophia/Sophie
    Anna
    Alexandra
    Ariana
    Emma
    Ava
    Leah
    Eliza
    Alice

Oh, I like Ava, Alice, and Caroline, too.

If I ever have a kid, it isn't going to be named until it comes out. I'm way to indecisive.

Ditto. Sometimes I like a name for a while then change my mind. I just hope I don't ever change my mind after the kid is born and officially named. Wink

I think my big issue here is that I thought Minna Grace would be perfect (my grandma was Minna, K's was Grace). Then my cousin is having a girl in Sept and her mother told mine that we're "not allowed to use Minna" because my cousin is. But honestly, if this baby comes out and looks like a Minna, she will be Minna. Probably we'll call her Minnie when she's little because it is cute. My grandmother went by Min most of the time, but her legal name was actually Minnie and when she got married she changed her whole name - first to Minna and her maiden became her middle, and then she took my grandfather's last name. (BTW, grandpa's name was Max, were they made for each other or what?).

I also like Audrey a lot. Audrey Grace could be nice.

We for sure will make this a game-day decision once we see her, but I just want a list of possibles to choose from.

I love that a few of you like Claire. I loved growing up with that name as I was usually the only one :-)

P was named 2 or 3 days after.  And now every time I see a commercial for The Mentalist, I wonder if that's why it was on my mind (the main character's first name is Patrick).  I watched that while I was in labor and it was the first time I had seen it.

For the record, we've never regretted his name once we finally picked it!

I suck at this whole thing. The only name I truly like is Suraya. I don't care for popular names or traditional names. I personally think traditional names sound old lady-like. Then I think of the child that probably would hate the name later in life because it sounds old. I am definitely no help here. I'm gonna be screwed if I ever have another girl. Maybe I can name her Suraya #2 and change her middle name.
