Question about onions/onion sets
Flame away, I know this is a stupid question. I bought an onion set and planted them awhile ago. I planted some close together so I could use them as green onions and some far apart to let grow into full size onions. Well they have grown very tall so I need to pick some to use as green onions. Should I have planted some every couple of weeks rather than all at once if I wanted to use green onions throughout the season? Or should I have used seeds tahter than an oinion set to get green onions?
Re: Question about onions/onion sets
now, i'm kind of new to growing onions too but I'm pretty sure scallions (what I think you're calling green onions) are a different plant than an onion. A young onion's leaves (at least mine) aren't tender at all like a scallion. And the "bulb" part has tougher skin.
But otherwise, yes, you need to stagger plantings if you don't want all ready at once.
